My question is, how does Boston College have the same baseline prestige as Georgetown? When was BC ever a basketball power?

1 player in the 80s shouldn't make BC on par with the Hoyas, which has produced NBA Hall of Famers like Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Allen Iverson, and Dikembe Mutombo. And for all we know, players like Hibbert and Jeff Green could also blossom into perennial All-Stars.

Dac is being facetious (at least I hope so, lol). But while we're at it I'll throw in Troy Bell, Craig Smith, Jarred Dudley and the 1 guy who actually had star potential but is an enormous head case, Sean Williams. That's certainly on par with all that G'Town has turned out not to mention the actual success the Hoyas have had.

km, did you mean to say certainly NOT on par with Georgetown?The context leads to to believe that... and yes, while Dana was a fine player (and bastard) I have no idea why BC would be the same as G'town in baseline...

What kind of impact does NBA Hall of Famers have on a college's reputation?  San Fransisco and Holy Cross have produced NBA Hall of Famers too.

This just illustrates how off it is basing such a large part of the game on how things were going around 2004.  At that point, BC was coming off 3 NTs in 4 seasons, and Georgetown had just fired its coach after losing to BC in the Big East tournament.  They hadn't played in the postseason in 2002 (rejecting an NIT bid), played in the NIT in 2003 and went 13-15 (4-12 Big East) in 2004.  Knowing that the recent history around that date is what Tarek based this on, you could certainly argue that Georgetown got a big bump in baseline prestige based on their history.

I think at this point in all the worlds, baseline prestige should act as a floor and influence hiring, and that is about it.

UVa's baseline is by far the most egregious in terms of inflated baseline in all of hoops dynasty, at least as far as I'm concerned.  BC's at least had a couple NBA-worthy players in the last 30 years.  UVa has had Ralph Sampson and, er...Curtis Staples?  Bryant Stith?  Really, where do we go after Ralph Sampson?

Even if we're basing things on 2002 or 2004 or whatever it was, VPI (three NCAA berths since tournament expansion), Clemson (five NCAA tournament berths in the previous 20 seasons), and Florida State (at the time, one appearance in the previous decade) have the same baselines as Notre Dame, Iowa (went to the NCAA tournament six out of ten seasons at the time), Michigan (just a few years removed from the Fab Five, etc.), Temple, Texas, Missouri, etc., etc.

Was being sarcastic.

If baseline prestige is going to have such a big impact on actual prestige it absolutely needs to be fixed, and it should have the potential to change. For example Memphis is still signing recruits because Calipari made Memphis a powerhouse. Eventhough the coach is gone that built them to an A+ prestige recruits still look at Memphis as a school they want to go to so essentially Calipari raised their baseline prestige. Maryland would be a school in the opposite direction, as they are no longer a power and they struggle to get studs.

Maryland's prestige is too high historically, but just right if we're talking about 2002 or so.

What the problem is that the ACC's baselines are WAY higher than every other conference, and that shouldn't be the case...even back in 2002 that wasn't the case.  Probably half the teams in the ACC should lose 1/3 of a grade of baseline and then they'd be close to the Big 10/Pac10/Big East.

Well...Realistically speaking I can see starting a baseline prestige when a world is created. After the 1st season that prestige should be adjusted with each teams and conferences success each season. That would be realistic. In reality every basketball team and every conference has earned its prestige. If HD does not allow prestige to dramatically change after several seasons, then it is very lame. Within HD, if Mercer University can theoretically have a higher prestige than Kentucky, then the game is actually realistic. If not, then its just a modified copy.
