I looked around and couldnt find an answer to this question specifically when I know its probably been asked 1000x.  Forgive me if its already been asked.

What happens when you make promises to an INELIGIBLE player?  I know there is the rule of giving X% of starts/minutes (in games they play) to a player will meet your requirements, but does that include a dummy who won't play any games?  Is there anything else I should be concerned with?

No worries as long as he stays ineligible. Promises are only good for the season they are offered in. The only risk, and it's minor, is if he grows a brain and passes his SAT before signing.

I just had an ineligible and I believe the promises will carry to that player's Sophomore season. I can't remember 100% but maybe someone else can help.

Sorry, jbob23 I'm not someone else. I'm the same guy that said that promises are only good for the season they are made in. Unless something has changed that I am not aware of, that is the way it works. I have been wrong before but I am confident on this one.

They are only suppose to apply to first season. Its possible that when they closed that loophole recently something went awry. I remember seeing a thread about something like that...

I'm not going to say your wrong, if anything it's going to be me but when you make a promise and that player sits out a year doesn't the promise still have to be kept when they show up year 2?

Jbob, unless something has been changed in the last month or so, the promises don't carry over to the next season.

Thanks for the clerification emy and weena. I just signed a guy three seasons ago but my old age isn't helping me remember. I just thought I saw the promise of ten minutes show up in year two. Thanks again to you two guys for sharing.
