Low DI teams recruiting from DII Topic

Please discuss:  What do you think about low prestige DI teams recruiting the best DII recruits?  Is this a viable method of recruiting?  Do you think that is is a cheap tactic?  Should it be allowed?  What are your thoughts?  I certainly do have my own opinions on this.

If a d1 team wants to recruit a division THREE player, its their own business.  What do you mean 'should it be allowed'?

Actually, that one's not allowed.  Your AD will stop you.
True enough.  Just saying.  if a coach wants to go after a player, there isn't a "This player is reserved exclusively for d2 use' tag on them - nor should there be.

Viable strat for low end D1 teams, and probably a damn good strategy. Alot of D2 teams have 750+ and even 800+ players, and these guys should be scooped up by D1 teams.

I agree with this.  I am waiting for a DII guy to complain about the top talent in DII being taken by DI.  Pulldowns are done all the time, so why not pull up?

There shouldbe no discussion. Some A+ D2 schools have low rated D1 guys on their list. The same guy is on the low prestige D1 school list. It happens. And as others have said, sometimes a guy is good enough. I just had a guy get drafted in D2 , he started 496, ended up 805. Some D2 in knight got the 137th rated SF with high potential in 8 categories. I'd have taken him in my old Montana St days in a heartbeat.

What about schools from Big 6 conferences snatching up D2 recruits? Is that a viable strategy?

I was on the opposite end of that "strategy" in Knight.

depending upon the player (potential), the positional need, the quality of the BCS in team and conference in question, maybe.

Obviously the DI coach in question sees that the player has enough potential to contribute in DI.

So this isn't even a 2-sided issue.

There are some players who are underrated by WIS, others who are overrated. As someone said, there are D2 players in the 700-800 range, and yes, those guys should by-and-large really be on DI rosters.

(Oh, and let's not overlook the not-so-insignificant fact that most of these "D2 players" are DI players being pursued as a pulldown or dropdown by a D2 coach)

Its ok for D I coaches to recruit for depth too isn't it? Even if a "D-2" player never starts but gives good minutes in relief that has value...

After I started that thread, the subsequent discussion reminded me that D2 coaches sign D1 players all the time.  Without my pulldowns, my D2 team would barely be able to beat a team of blind nuns in wheelchairs.
