If its not going to be a major effect, its just window dressing that needlessly complicates the game.
Half of the tabs and boxes dealing with recruiting aren't major, but altogether it adds something. I'd rather do away with favorite school and distance and add something that gives us more control.
And getting an advantage at a particular HS that may or may not have a decent player in the next 10 seasons is more control?
I control whether I recruit a certain player from a certain high school. Is it random that a player I want would pop up there again? Sure, but it's certainly more likely to happen if I recruit regionally.
So yes, some, albeit minimal, control is more than the zero control we have over favorite school and distance preferences.
I agree that statewide pipelines probably would help BCS schools. I think it's much more likely that HS pipelines help the mid-majors (and it would be fun in D2/D3).
