How can you battle a d2 school at d3 with the small budgets given at that level? In this situation I don't think it's wise. If you're battling other d3 schools then maybe but there are so many similar players at the lower levels why waste the money battling when there's a twin recruit up the road?
It's a sim. Still, if u pick smart, u can easily win D3 vs d2 even vs humans - but ESPECiALLY sims. I haven't played there in a while, but when I did, over maybe 15 seasons i was probably 10 for 10 in battles with higher division sims and 5 for 6 on humans. Not doing anything special. Of course u don't want to battle if just as good a player is available cheap. But when there isn't... Fire away
That's not always true, and I had an experience with my George Fox team this past cycle that proves it.
I was being considered by a good PG pulldown within the conventional distance, when a D2 team came along and jumped on him. I had a full day's consideration credit, but because the D2 team had 10 open scholarships and probably over $30,000 to spend (I had roughly 10k), my chances of keeping the recruit away from that D2 school were slim and none.
It wasn't even worth spending money on trying.
thats kind of the point. you have to pick the battles carefully. you only want to initiate a potential battle situation unless you feel you have the advantage. but when a d2 school jumps on your player, hes initiating the situation - and you should often stop spending completely. when you do choose to battle, you can win most of them. however, in learning, you will definitely loose some too. i took my share of lickings as well, but you learn to spot the situations after enough of em. with 10 scholarships, that d2 team had a ton of money - definitely not an ideal situation. his distance and prestige aren't mentioned, both those are also major factors.
although it may not be a factor to some... i always thought it was a lot of fun - the strategy of deciding if and when to battle. so i never really minded when i lost, it was still fun. the reality is, there are so many "good" players available in d3, you can often get them really cheaply. so before you get into a heavy battle, you want to make sure you get your ducks in a row, so you expect only 1 walk on if you lose. you should also have a couple thousand when signings rolls around, so you can replace anybody you might have lost.
so basically... i think you can put yourself in a situation where losing a battle causes fairly little damage to your team, with a good chunk of cash left at that point. if so, why not take a shot with that money? its got to be a good enough player and its got to be a situation you think you can win, but those situations do exist. picking off simAI recuits is a great way to start.
