Once you have talked to a coach or scouted a recruit it would be nice if the offense and defense the recruit plays would show up on his ratings page as well as his knowledge of it.  I hate having to constantly go back and read emails to see who played what.  It would be even better if you were able to sort based on offense or defense as well.

It would also be nice if you were able to establish a pipeline to certain states.  My UW Oshkosh team has had multiple players from North Dakota (two from the same high school right now).  Wouldn't it make sense to have that somehow factor into my success (or at least reduce the cost) in North Dakota for future recruits?

One more thing, at D3 it seems too expensive to be able to scout more than one or two states (at most).  It would be nice there would be no cost for getting detailed information on players from within your state or within 200 miles or something like that.

Any thoughts?

The D3 would be nice seeing as I'm in D3 as well. Could be unfair based on location. I.e. A lot more kids in the Northeastern united states then say Utah/Colorado?

I don't think your first idea with IQ's is a big deal, I never take that into consideration unless I have two players who are almost exactly the same. Usually even if they come with "He knows this offense well" (which is rare in my 9 seasons) the recruit will still have a D rating. I don't think I've ever had a recruit come in with higher than a D rating, maybe the odd D+. So really, not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

I like the pipeline idea. Maybe have a small multiplier for how many kids from that state are currently on your team?

I'm in total disagreement on the last one -- to me that simply removes too much strategy from the recruiting element of the game. Unless you're trying to scout one of the pricier/bigger states like Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, etc., you can already scout enough states if you play your cards wisely and don't get too greedy. One of the key decisions at D3 is how to play your cards and apportion your recruiting money -- do you scout early and find the best recruits/pulldowns available locally? wait for signings to begin and use the cheaper FSS costs to scout more states and hope some gems fell through the cracks regionally? locate D2 players with good starting core values for their position, wait for them to drop and scout their specific state when they do hope to discover a bonus recruit or two in the state that nobody else is on yet? some other plan that someone else might have come up with?

If you make things too easy (cheap), there's no reason to consider and settle on one strategy, because suddenly all (or at least most) are available and possible.

I don't get the statement of only being able to scout 2 states in D3. I always scout at least 10-15 states in D3 and sometimes 18-20. Hmmmm........

18-20 geez, how do you have that much money?

i think the lack of cash in DIII is part of the fun.
i went the hyper local route - scouted 1 state - took lower rated players with high lotential hardly ever going 200+ miles away.

The 3rd idea was just a thought.  I guess I was thinking in the real world that if I coach D3 in Oskosh that I would pretty much know all there is to know about the decent high school players within an hours drive.  In fact, they would probably be coming to camps at my school.  I have no idea how a D3 program could afford to scout 18-20 states.  In fact, it seems almost impossible to me.

In regards to what they ran in high school I think it is a big deal.  I would much rather have a player start off as a D or D+ than at an F.  If the information has already been given to me I would just like it to be displayed on the players page or on his ratings page so I don't have to keep going back to the email I received.

I seriously doubt you scout 20 states in DIII

Have to call bs on that too.  If I purposely enginieer from the smallest states up, the CHEAPEST I can get for 20 states is $4,500.

I did the 12 closest around Wisconsin and it would cost me $6,100.  If you needed to fill 3 or 4 spots you would need to do it without campus or home visits.  Seems odd to me as well.   Again, I am not looking for something crazy, I just thought you could get a bit more detail on some local talent.

I mean . . . Six slots, 1500 of tourney cash would leave you with 10000 - minus 4500 is 5500 meaning less than 1000 a slot

I have scouted as many as 28 states in D3. No joke.

Look at his UTD team. Now think about how much extra cash he's getting. He could easily scout 10-12 states, and I'm sure he can do more pretty easily. I can see 20 states.

The most he can get for himself is $750.  By winning the championship.  If he did and he played another team from his conference in the championship game, the most he could get would be $1500 - if they had the final four and two in the championship game You would STILL have less than $2,800 extra.  Meaning that in that ridiculous scenario, even with six scholarships of money, there would STILL be only a total of $11,750. If the cheapest way to twenty states is roughly $4,500 then that would be about the only way to achieve it.  That would leave about $1,200 per slot for recruiting.

True. I just did the math, and he would have just had about $2,333 from last year's post season. BUT, I am willing to bet he had carryover money, although that is speculation. So let's assume he carried over 1k after saving 4k, just for the sake of argument. that means he now has $21,333 (assuming he has 6 schollies.) That may be a little far fetched to say 20 states with 21k, but I'm fairly certain 10-15 is not out of the question. He has won 4 of the last 5 championships, so with the top prestige, extra money, and semi strong conference, he could very well be stashing the cash. I doubt it is too hard for him to grab recruits.

I'm not saying its true, but I'm not saying it isn't. I'd like to see him clear it up though.
