Offensive Game Plans Topic

I've set this when I first started HD a few seasons ago and am wondering if I should revisit it and see what other people do.


My current WINNING settings in ()

Winning By [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 points]  ( 6 POINTS )
Time Remaining [1,2,3,4,5,6 minutes]   ( 4 MINUTES )
Offense   ( FLEX )
Tempo [Fast Paced, Normal, Slow Down]  ( SLOW DOWN )
3 Point Frequency [-5 to +5]   ( -2 )

I figure slow down to run out the clock and no need to keep jacking up 3s???  Other thoughts?  Too much time? Too small of a lead?

I figure uh, fast paced will hopefully not use as much time.  And then bump my overall 3pt up a notch?  Too little time?

Tempo and +/- usually should be done on a game by game basis, there are some good threads out there already that talk at length about gameplanning. Try doing a search to see if any come up for you.

this is true in general, but for end game settings? i guess its a good idea, but what he has is pretty much good enough. adjust in the NT if you have good reason to (or play with it sooner to learn). but what you have is basically fine for the regular season.

you kind of can take 2 routes with these settings. 1) use them only when you are losing badly. this way, you know something seriously needs to change, so you try to make a substantial change. this way, they rarely take effect.  2) use them when its close, to an alternative and generally somewhat radical game plan. the problem with this is you can blow a close game you otherwise may have one. but they take effect more often.

with 1), you rarely will less often make an impact, and more often do so when the game is already out of reach. with 2), you risk blowing tight games.

i tend to go with 2, because i am 99% sure it is technically optimal. but then i pay no attention to it, which is terrible. so don't do that. go with #1 and set and forget, or go with #2 and manage it tightly.

I'm just asking for 'endgame' settings. Contrary to my coaching record, I DO in fact adjust tempo and +/- on a game by game basis.

DO most of ya'll leave it as is for most games?  (endgame)

endgame tempo and +/- ? yeah i usually leave it, but you probably shouldn't. i never really considered changing those during the season. but the more i think about it, the better it sounds. i do usually change these in the post season, at least i have lately. back when i did game plan game to game, i didn't - but that was probably a mistake. go for it.

What about the TEMPO?

I know TEMPO for a normal game plan dictates how many possessions and the better team/worse team can use those to their advantage.

BUT for ENDGAME gameplans, does it morph into more clock management or still just more possessions or less possessions? 

I'd figure that if you are losing you'd want to quicken the pace to score more (more possessions) whereas if you're winning you'd want to slow it down so that you drain the clock on each and every possession.

So, I shouldn't alter my TEMPO because I'd still be the "better" team wanting MORE possessions or the "worse" team looking for FEWER possessions even if loosing or winning.
