position penalty Topic

Does position penalty exist? For instance, if a PG played at C, is there a penalty? If I recall correctly this was taken out of the game. Can anyone confirm?

No position penalties... if a player has the ratings he can play any spot where those ratings are most utilized.

Really?  This was taken out?  Can anyone tell me when/where?  I don't remember that one...

It was taken out when the major engine change occurred in 2010. From the May 4, 2010 devchat:

Q: I hear on the forum that there will be NO position penalty after the changes - is this true? (metsmax - Hall of Famer - 12:59 PM)

A: There is currently no position penalty, so a player's performance depends solely on his ratings. If that causes any problems I reserve the right to reinstate that penalty, but I'd rather not have to do that.

Wish they'd let us change the listed position ourselves (like in HBD) for awards/draft purposes now that the position penalty is gone.

+1
When I have a SG playing at SF every single game, he should be recognized as a SF in post-season awards.

Yet another +1. I have had a couple of teams that run FB/FCP, so naturally I tend to recruit players with high speed, athleticism, and stamina. In my experience my teams usually end up with about 7 pgs or sgs and the rest sf or pf. I recall a season where I had nothing but pgs and pfs, and despite dominating conference play several deserving players were left off of the awards because of their position.
