Qualifying for a Big 6 job Topic

I'm curious what it generally takes to qualify for a Big 6 conference job in D1.  In Crum I'm at Mercer and have had good success, but in a conference that has only had 2 or 3 human coaches.  I've played relatively challenging non-conference schedules the last 2 seasons and done really well (a combined 19-1), but have somehow managed to find a way to not win a CT yet.  So far this season we are 15-1, 9-0 and are ranked #14 with an RPI of 24.  The 3 previous seasons (starting with my first one here) we were 21-11 (3rd round of the PIT), 24-8 (3rd round of the PIT) and 27-3 (1st round of the NT, ranked #22 with an RPI of 22).

What do I need to do to qualify for a Big 6 job (I didn't qualify for any after last season)?  Is winning the CT enough or do I need a win a game or 2 in the NT?

I dont have a big 6 school but I might have a suggestion. I think you should move up to like a Mountain West or C-USA or MAC first because it is a bigger school and better conference and if you could do something at one of thoose schools I wouldnt see why you couldnt move up to a Big 6 conference within 2-4 seasons.

Basically, if you have a decent season and if you have 4 or 5 seasons at division 1, then you should qualify for teams at or better than your current team's prestige.  At least that is what I have seen.

You currently have a B-, so I would think you would qualify for all B- or worse teams in Division-1.  At least the is generally what I have seen over the last month or so after the latest tweaks.

Normally I would agree, but I was B- after last season and didn't qualify for a lot of jobs that were B- or worse (some not even in Big 6 conferences).

had been at a C+ prestige div1 school for 2 seasons, 1st round NT both times.  the best jobs open to me as a "longshot" last offseason were 4 or 5 Big 6 schools.  didn't apply, so not sure what % chance a "longshot" really has of landing the job.

Don't do this unless you want to start your path (pretty much) all over again. Just keep trying to make the NT every year, you're not far away. You may even be eligible for bottom of the barrel Big 6 gigs.

longshot is almost impossible. wait until it says qualified or step backwards.

Each school also has unique longevity rules ... so some want longer times at div-1 than others for experience.

Also, obviously base team prestige would come into play.

To be honest, since they changed it to take into account longer times, I have not tracked it that closely.

I suspect it is the longer track record that kept me from qualifying after last season.  This is now my 10th season in Crum.  That may be the magic trick.

longevity is the trick. I jumped from D2 Harding to Big 6 Arkansas after a long successful run.
