Lowest $$$ amount to sign a recruit?? Topic

What's the least amount of money you'd have to spend to sign a player?

I'm brand new here but what i read is zone is the worst defense and that might be the problem. I think most people like press or man to man.
Clearly the wrong thread, lol.

I've spent $110 to sign a couple of guys. But that generally only happens when a D1 school reaches way down to sign a recruit. I've also signed a guy for $100 but he was a transfer student who I lost a battle for the season before and he began the season considering me immediately.

So for the lower levels would it increase the lower the division? say $250 for D2 and $350 for D3?

You can sign players for $110, doesn't always work and usually has to be near the end of recruitment, but a promise of X minutes or start plus scholarship can get a guy who isn't considering anyone.

If you can do it to find a 4th year player who would be better than a walk on it's a great method, promise him minutes you can't deliver and a scholarship, he plays one unhappy year and graduates.  Beats losing the carryover money from a walk on.

quite honestly, i don't mind the repetitive questions. (see also http://whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx?TopicID=452013&TopicsTimeframe=30) bc, in all honesty, discussions like these may yield the same responses 99 times out of 100, but so long as people are willing to ask and answer, every now and then, you find a nugget of info that helps your team. personally, i take a socratic approach to this game: the more i learn (in the forums and experience), the more i realize that there is a wealth of knowledge out there that i don't know. by way of personal examples, i recently learned that FW doesn't affect LP, depsite the developer produced FAQ - specifically because of a conflict bet the FAQ (stating that FW affects, among other things, LP) and the maxed out message that a coach gets when DEF and BLK are maxed out but LP isn't. another thing i recently learned is that setting all players to 0 distro will create a 'best player distro' instead of even distro to everyone. this latter 'fact' was included in a forum built for newbies. presumably, i should - after 5 years of playing this game - by now know the info that's being posted in a newbie forum, but i don't. others might have learned everything and anything there is to this game, but for coaches like me, i still have mentors that i seek advice from (mully being one of them) and i try to read most of the forums - even the ones where i can predict the questions and answers just based on the title - to find those rare nuggets that might improve my game.

Hey Mully, if they bother you so much, why do you bother to read and post in them?   Is it just so you can post such informative and helpful comments?

emy - in mully's defense, he's one of the most accessible and helpful HOF'ers out there. with this context in mind, i think he meant, "i really hope that before posting a question in the forums, coaches search the database of old forums to see if their question has been answered. in doing so, they might find other, useful forums that will help guide them along. once they've exhausted the existing forums, this is the best place to seek out seasoned coaches' advice." mully's just rough around the edges, but all around, an open ecyclopediac resource for other coaches to ask for help. plus, i just beat him in naismith, so he was probably looking for tips on how to get his revenge!

I don't think it was even a very harsh comment. Without the OMFG there's not much negativity there at all. With it, there's evident exasperation but I don't read "you're a jerk for asking" in it. I think it's also something about this particular question. I believe I've read "I've signed recruits for $110." "Really?" "Yeah, really" about two dozen times in the last month.

Is that what you think he meant Jtt?  You sure got a whole lot more out of it than I did.  Guess I'll have to read a little deeper into his meanings.

In regards to the "you're a jerk for asking it" part, Llama you just need to go back and search the forums for previous Mully comments to pretty much realize that was EXACTLY what he was saying.  I'm not saying that meaning to sound harsh towards you, not by any means, so please don't take it that way.

If we could get an updated players guide for the game as it is today pinned in the forum it would be such a help to new coaches. Or even a FAQ thread pinned to the top, one that could be updated constantly by someone rather than what is available now through WIS.

I asked about having my recruiting guide and discussion thread pinned but was told no.
