warm up an open slot at UCLA

No way Ben Howland gets fired yet. Jim Boehim and Jim Calhoun are more likely to be leaving due to scandals (SU and UConn) and personal health (Calhoun) then Howland.  Bruce Weber, Illinois will be the first high profile opening, Shaka Smart? Greg Marshall (witicha state)? Does weber go back to Southern Illinios?

I hope Howland gets fired. The way UCLA has been ran over the past 3 years is a disgrace.

Salag, no way Shaka gets fired, but leaving for greener pastures is a distinct possibility. Boeheim will be back, as he is remarkably (eerily?) clear. Calhoun, though, is a good call.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
Shaka won't get fired, but I believe he can leave VCU for Illinois.

I also read So. Illinois will try to get Weber if he is fired, which I believe will probably happen, but if he doesn't go to So. Illinois, he may also:

1. Become a Analyst (which I hope does not happen, anyone ever hear his voice?)
2. Be an Asst. at Purdue (unlikely).
3. Other

He's not suggesting that Shaka gets fired, but that he takes over at Illinois.

I think every Illini fan is.

@dcy, that is why I added the part about the distinct possibilty that he leaves on his own terms. I just wanted to be clear :)

If I had to guess, based on what I know, Bruce will take a year off. His daughter is a cheerleader at Illinois and I THINK she graduates next year...I think he'll lay low with the family in Champaign til she graduates and then see what happens.

Also, it seems as though Illinois assistant Jay Price is the frontrunner for the Eastern Illinois job. Would be a great hire from an x's and o's standpoint.

Howland isn't going anywhere. Shabazz has been a silent commit to UCLA for some time now.
