yup, they do that if you cut too many or would have too many openings.  Dont remember what the triggers are - used to know

I think the magic number is at least two scholarship players...might be three.

I'm taking on a rebuild with 11 open slots. Looks like I have to keep this JR for 2 more seasons.

I cut three at NU last year and will probably cut another this year.  But those three cut brought me to six open, not any more - I think # open might have something to do with it.  Cutting two when you've already got 6 open might be harder than cutting four when you've got 7 more staying.

I've cut down to four schollies when taking over a new team (started with eight, if I'm not mistaken).  Never tried going any lower than that.
