Yes, I was suggesting Shaka take over at Illinois, no way he gets fired from VCU.

Shabazz may not be eligible and taking him on is a risk, for Ben Howland's sake, I hope he works out fine for them, especially with the transfers becoming eligible next year as well. Howland's seat is not hot, but if he does not turn around next year, it will be. I think things will be quiet on the coaching front on the west coast this year, don't see anyone from the Pac-12, WCC, or Mountain West. (Now that I think about it, Eric Reveno at Portland in the WCC might be feeling a little warmth)

Anyone think Doc Sadler coached his final game for Nebraska tonight?

Bruce Weber is gone.

Look for Chris Collins to Illinois.

I hadn't heard Chris Collins, although he does have roots in Illinois.

There's alot of talk about AD Mike Thomas and his connection with Shaka Smart.  But wasn't Thomas also at Cincinnati when Mick Cronin was hired?  I wonder if Cronin would leave considering the unknown future of the BigEast.
Also why not Anthony Grant from Alabama?  Smart did work under him at VCU.  If the Illini were interested, I'm guessing it won't take much to pull him out of that mess of a program in Alabama.

I really dont care who takes over at Illinois as long as they can recruit Chicago. Missing out on Eric Gordon, Rose, Anthony Davis, etc. just kills the program.

Interesting Iguana1, but I think Anthony Grant is committed to bring Alabama basketball to a respectable status. Don't think he'll leave. What about Mooney form Richmond, a hot name last year on the coaching circuit but not being talked about much now.

I'm seeing Shaka and Chris Collins' names come up the most often in regards to Illinois from the experts online. My prediction is they don't hire a coach until at least mid-April.

One more possible candidate for Illinois, although I have not heard anything to confirm that he is on the list, Brad Stephens.  We felt last season Stevens was sort of on hold or in waiting for Indiana, now it appears Crean is not leaving any time soon, so other jobs might appear attractive to Stephens.  If any of you went to or watched Butler this season, he looked sick on the bench, miserable, having the worst time of his life sort of look.

Quick question, why did you spell his name stephens, stevens and then stephens again. For the record, its stevens. Just amused reading that.

On topic, that is a good point you raise. Crean isn't going anywhere for a while, the Illinois job is a very good job, I could see him giving it some though for sure. He's young and can always go back to a mid-major if he fails and still have a good career.

I have no idea, I should know better.   Stevens deserves better than my treatment of his name .... on topic, will be interesting to see if he does anything.  Butler has some transfer waiting in the wings who should be near POY in the Horizon League next season, in this case, don't worry about spelling, as I have no clue what his name is.  From what I know, he is the real deal however, might give Stevens some incentive to stay.  Salag, my keyboard just wants to spell that name Stephens, not Stevens, I almost did it again.

Yeah I've heard the same things about Butler is that they've pulled in some nice recruiting classes and have that one transfer, I forgot his name as well. I don't know if he is ashappy with the Indy area as say, Mark Few is with Spokane, Washington, where finally people stop using his name in every rumour. Also, Hinkle Fieldhouse has been renovated and I believe his salary is more than enough to keep him happy. Depends on whether he wants to try to lead a big conference program or stay put.

P.s. No worries about the spelling OR, I just completed my 4th year term paper. Topic: The Holocaust and their Perpetrators. I dive into it with a red pen tomorrow to fix grammar mistakes. I would make a grammar Nazi joke, but it doesn't seem appropiate.

If I had to guess, based on what I know, Bruce will take a year off. His daughter is a cheerleader at Illinois and I THINK she graduates next year...I think he'll lay low with the family in Champaign til she graduates and then see what happens.

Champaign to Carbondale's not that bad of a drive.

the guy transfering into Butler is Rotnei Clark.
A little guy that set all kind of high school scoring records in Oklahoma.   He should be a real good fit with Butler.
When he was playing at Arkansas many thought he was the best outside shooter in the country.
