Dick Versace, 71, is interested in the Eastern Illinois job.  He coached Bradley from 1978-86. followed by the Indiana Pacers.
I know this is my second non-serious post in a row, but with a name like that, why would you go into anything but porn?

I don't know anything about him other than his coaching credentials, but why on earth would Marshall turn down last year's NC State job, but take South Carolina now? Seems like a crazy talent gap/desire-to-be-good-at-basketball gap. I think Wichita is probably in a better position to be good for years to come than South Carolina...
Gregg grew up a Gamecock fan...still is a football season-ticket holder.

the guy transfering into Butler is Rotnei Clark.
A little guy that set all kind of high school scoring records in Oklahoma.   He should be a real good fit with Butler.
When he was playing at Arkansas many thought he was the best outside shooter in the country.
oh yeah? i remember him, kentucky recruited him, he has a very nice stroke

From Staten Island Online:

Wagner College’s Dan Hurley is expected to make a decision no later than tomorrow morning on whether to accept the University of Rhode Island hoops job.

Hurley, who visited the URI campus Saturday, is being lured by a six-year deal that could pay the former high school coach $4 million over the span of the contract.

Wagner countered the URI offer with an extended contract with a substantial pay boost for the 39-year-old.

If Hurley takes the job, he will likely be announced at a Wednesday press conference at the Kingston, R.I., school. He would leave behind a 25-6 team at Wagner which returns four starters and includes a high-caliber recruiting class.

If Hurley does leave for Rhode Island, Wagner athletic director Walt Hameline has expressed an interest in promoting Seahawk assistant Bobby Hurley Jr., the head coach’s older brother.

Versace, not pronounced like the clothing line, used to coach my beloved Pacers.  It is funny to me that his name popped up for this job.

Hunh.  Rhymes with "face".

Also, congrats to Dan Hurley on the job - always good to see that family doing well.

Wonder if Bobby Hurley is going with Danny?  Always thought Bobby would make a far better coach than Danny, who had a crisis of confidence as a player at SHU, whereas Bobby had that cold killer look in his eyes at crunch time, and was adept at the dagger in the heart near the end of the game that cemented the win.  He was intensely competetive, and if he chooses to continue coaching, will be a very successful HC, probably eclipsing his brother.

According to this report yesterday by Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com, Murray State coach Steve Prohm is Mississippi State's primary target to fill its coaching vacancy.

"Prohm would be interested in the Mississippi State opening for at least two obvious reasons -- prestige and millions of dollars," wrote Parrish. "Combine those things with the fact that he grew up in Georgia and graduated from Alabama, and it's simple to see why the opportunity to coach in the SEC is intriguing. ..."

Along with Prohm, the Bulldogs also have reached out to Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton, who interviewed for the Nebraska opening on Tuesday.

There is growing doubt as to whether VCU coach Shaka Smart will accept Illinois' lucrative job offer, and some reports indicate it could now be a longshot that he takes the job.

Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com this tweeted on Tuesday, "Sources confirm that unless something drastic changes in the next 24 hours, Shaka Smart will stay at VCU."

Meanwhile, Rothstein's colleague at CBSSports.com -- Gary Parrish -- tweeted the following stunner yesterday: "Breaking news: Shaka Smart is spending this afternoon ... on the road. Recruiting. For VCU."

If Smart passes on the Fighting Illini, Shannon Ryan of the Chicago Tribune reports that Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas has his sights on Alabama's Anthony Grant and Washington's Lorenzo Romar. Ryan also indicates that, per a source, Florida State's Leonard Hamilton is lobbying hard for the job.
