Thinking of going DI Topic

I am thinking of going DI finally, would love any insight on the nuances of DI mid-major recruiting vs. DII power conference recruiting.

You are thinking about leaving the Cal CAA?

Hmmmm.  Its kind of similar, actually.  Prestige in D1 really really matters.  You have to really pick your battles, but there are some opportunities if you pay attention to the big dogs and see one get into trouble (3 battles on 4 recruits, etc).  You typically don't wait for dropdowns, but maybe 1-2 cycles to see where the big boys are going to go.  I sometimes go for #50-100 players right away, but if no one is on a #30-50 player after cycle 1 I will go for him.

If you don't have some targets lined up by midnight on the first night in D2, no biggie.  In D1, that isn't a winning strategy.

I really enjoy the low levels of DI. I haven't had a ton of success, but I've taken two different schools past the first round of the NT which = success in my eyes anyway, and just had a team finish the season ranked in the top 25.

Recruiting can be really frustrating, but makes it more interesting IMO

Don't go for a SF in the low levels. You can find a guard who has silly ratings that will be fine at SF, and you can land him for under 1000 dollars.

http://whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=0&pid=1987976 is my SF, and I signed him for 1 campus visit. He is just as good as any SF I could have signed and for much cheaper.

http://whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Stats.aspx?tid=6033&pid=1950205 is a much worse one, but same idea.

http://whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=0&pid=2112528 will be my future SF. All were signed for a combined 2281. This frees up loads of money to battle and get better players.

Secondly, don't worry about walk ons. Avoid doing the press and I actually recommend a walk on or 2 each season for more money to sign better players. You will hardly be able to redshirt unless you inform, so a 10-11 player team will be fine.

I agree with the second part of the post, but not necessarily the first part.  Furry is right in one aspect, which is that you can find guards who can play a passable SF, but if you find a SF with nice potentials who isn't drawing much interest, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to snatch him up.  All depends on the makeup of your team, what you need, and what's available.

For SF's I'm willing to take any Position for it.  I have a PG SG and SF as the SF's on my team the lowest REB I would take is probaly 30 at the position (if he's really good at other stuff) but It's better to get closer to at least 40.
