Many TCU fans want the school to go for Pitt's Jamie Dixon.  He was a star at TCU in the 80's but his contract at Pitt is worth twice what TCU was paying their former coach.

COLORADO STATE

According to this story by Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com, Southern Miss coach Larry Eustachy has emerged as one of the leading candidates for the Colorado State job.

Parrish writes that CSU has reportedly also spoken with Weber State's Randy Rahe, New Mexico assistant Craig Neal and two CSU assistants -- Niko Medved and Craig Smith

SMU
After missing out on three earlier targets -- Marquette's Buzz Williams, Virginia Tech's Seth Greenberg and Long Beach State's Dan Monson -- SMU reportedly may be interested in Harvard coach Tommy Amaker.

At this point, this is strictly speculation, and Amaker's name has come up at a number of places already this offseason, but it may be a name to keep an eye on if you're a Mustangs' fan.

With the high salary SMU is willing to offer, this coaching search has already lasted longer than many expected. But to this point, you have to give SMU athletic director Steve Orsini credit for not shying away from big-name coaches

TCU
According to Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com, TCU is now targeting LSU's Trent Johnson for its head coaching vacancy.

This is definitely an interesting development, and one we have to think might disappoint some TCU fans considering that only yesterday there was buzz about possibly landing Pitt coach Jamie Dixon, a TCU alum. Johnson, remember, was on the hot seat himself for much of the past season and has a losing record (58-59) in four seasons in Baton Rouge. For now, though, it appears that he's emerged as the leading candidate for the Horned Frogs.

Prior to LSU, Johnson was the head coach at  Nevada and Stanford

Johnson never should have left Stanford.  That move was always a head scratcher for me.

From 'Palo Alto Online' in 2008:

Trent Johnson may have been too honest for his own good, describing his situation at Stanford as his dream job and letting anyone within earshot know it.

Underpaid and apparently underappreciated at Stanford, the 51-year-old coach was introduced as the new men's coach at during a press conference on Thursday in .

The Pac-10 Coach of the Year, Johnson was in the final year of his contract at Stanford, and was scheduled to meet later this week with A.D. Bowlsby about an extension. According to a source close to Johnson, Bowlsby verbally offered Johnson a contract about half the length of the five-year deal he wanted. For Johnson, it was too little, too late.

Johnson had "preliminary talks" with LSU officials at the Final Four in this past weekend. His new contract with LSU is estimated at $1 million to $1.2 million annually — nearly twice the reported salary he received at Stanford.

DUQUESNE

From the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

If Duquesne wants sizzle, Orlando Antigua, the former Pitt player and assistant and current Kentucky assistant, is the popular choice.

Who's hotter than Antigua?

When your team plays in two consecutive Final Fours while producing enough lottery picks to field an NBA expansion team, you sit at the head of the table.

Antigua dominated talk among college basketball coaches and administrators meeting over the weekend in New Orleans about being the best candidate to replace Ron Everhart. Antigua is a familiar name from a big-time program who has paid his dues.

We know Antigua can recruit (see: Anthony Davis), but can he coach?

Eastern Illinois hires Jay Spoonhour, son of respected coach Charlie Spoonhour.   The son has been the coach at Moberly JC for 3 years.  Prior to that he was an assistant at five DI schools and, at UNLV, was head coach for a month when his father took a leave of absence.

In an unusual approach, E. Illinois announced the five finalists and invited fans to ask them questions in an open forum. The other finalists were  Brian Fish (Oregon asst.); Kareem Richardson (Xavier asst.); David Cason (Vandy asst.) and Doug Novsek (Nevada asst.)

MIAMI — Florida International has fired men’s basketball coach Isiah Thomas, after the Hall of Fame player went 26-65 in three seasons.

Thomas signed a five-year deal with FIU, taking nothing in base salary for his first season and agreeing to a deal where he would receive nearly half of any gross revenues from ticket sales, commissions collected on food and beverage concessions and sponsorships.

But FIU never generated the buzz that both it and Thomas envisioned. The Panthers averaged 1,071 fans at home this season, nearly four times that many on the road.

Fla. International finished 8-21 this season. They started out strong, upsetting George Mason in their opener and, later, losing to Maryland by 4. But they also lost to NAIA Texas Wesleyan

Miami (Ohio) has hired John Cooper of Tennessee St.   He led the Tigers to their first 20-win season in 32 years and was the only team to defeat Murray St. in the regular season. They fell to Murray 57-54 in the OVC championship, then lost to Mercer in the CIT tournament.

Talk about the disparity between the top. middle, and bottom end programs, Cooper signed for $250,000.  And Miami is a middle level program.

I see what you're saying.  I love, as a coach myself, stealing things I like from different NCAA coaches.  Presses - Pitino   1-3-1 - Beilein   Sets out of a time out - Izzo/Ryan  Managing momentum - Calhoun   I could go on and on from my notebook.  I have been taking notes for 6 years now and haver been impressed enough by 1 thing Weber has done to write anything down.  I don't harbor any ill will toward him, I just think he is more suited for the mid major coaching ranks.
I am a student of the game also, and have coached for 25 years. (commish118 and 2boune are one in the same BTW).  You are probably aware, and may have attended some of the Nike Coaching Clinics.  I have been to several and met some of the best college coaches in the business.  You get an opportunity to talk to these guys and ask questions and you really get to see the nuts and bolts of their strategies, and you see their personalities.  Weber was at one of the clinics I attended and I was really impressed. If you haven't been, or don't know anything about it, go to http://www.basketballcoach.com ,  A lot of great books, videos, and coaching tools, plus you can check out the schedule for the clinics.  I recommend it not just for coaches, but also serious basketball fans who love the x's and o's.

The Tennessee State job is interesting.  As a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, they're the only HBCU ( historically black college or university) that's not in either the SWAC or MEAC. The Ohio Valley, mostly a Kentucky-Tennessee conference, offered better rivalries and less travel time.

They also have a rich atletic history. In 1957, they became the first HBCU to win a national title when they won the NAIA tournament.  In 1959, they became the first team at any level to win 3 consecutive titles.  They've also had 100 footballers drafted by the NFL

Their women's track team, the Tigerbelles, have sent 40 women to the Summer Olympics, winning 23 medals, 13 of them gold.

With some reports from the Chicago Sun Times that Davis was paid up to $200K to come to Kentucky, it might be wise to sit on Antigua a bit longer.

True or false, you cannot ignore an allegation like that and if true, it could bite whoever hires him.
