What to do, what to do... Topic

Okay, I just took over Colby Sawyer in Rupp and stepped into a situation where I have 9 seniors. The great thing is the experience, but the bad part is getting all the bit players their minutes.

So now I am faced with a question: Which PG do I start?? One has FREAKISH ATH and DEF and solid speed, but not much else, and therefor is deemed Defense. The other, a solid offensive PG (ratings wise) with low ATH SPD and DEF.

What would you guys recommend? Whoever doesn't start will obviously get a good chunk of minutes, but should I platoon them depending on the opposing PG?

This is my team, and the players I am debating between starting are Scott and Donnellan:

I would start Donnellan at SG and have Stonge be your backup PG since he has good pass and ball handling skills as well.  Sometimes it's best to ignore position listing and just play them at the position where there skills fit the best.

Stonge and DOnnelan and live with the offensive problems, not really even close for me.  Just don't give 'DOnny' much distro, then run your offense through those post players with the LP's.

I would start Scott and Donnellan so you can have a stud shooter in your starting lineup.  With Scott shooting the outside shot and Flory and Lewis pounding it inside, and a defensive guy like Donnellan, you've got a pretty solid starting unit.  That's personally what I would do.  The flex offense with 2 stud inside scorers and an outside shooter to keep the defense honest is a deadly combo.

Stonge at PG and Scott at SG.  Donnelan at SF.

Exactly what I was thinking.  Donnellan has to be in the lineup somewhere.

What about rotating Donnallen through those three spots based on defensive matchups? Would that make a difference on a zone team?

This team needs to have 6-7 starters:
Those three guards all need significant playing time. If it was me my 2-deep would be:
PG) Stonge, Scott
SG) Donnellan, Scott
SF) Bedford, Donnellan
PF) Jimenez, Olivar
C) Lewis, Olivar
The problem with the 3-guard lineup is that you'll have to give Dunn serious minutes and he's bad. I'd put Stonge in front of Scott for defensive reasons. If you play slow-down or normal tempo with these 7 that's probably your best chance for success. That said you will probably want to rotate matchups based on scholarships.

I would not put him at PG because his ball handling and passing aren't anywhere close to good enough to play the point but I would move him between SG and SF based on matchups if you're in man to man. If youre in a zone it makes a difference unless you are playing a 3-2. In a 2-3 you could put him at SG if the other team has better perimeter players and at SF if they have better players down low.

I presume you meant "based on matchups' rather than 'based on scholarships?'?

If it somewhat randomly chooses in a zone, might that not make a difference of who he is most likely to sub with if its a 2 - 3 or 3-2?  For example, if he is a shooting guard on a two three, he'd be paired with the PG for defensive purposes, if he's a sf in a 2-3 he would be paired with the post players?  The only other thing I can think of is that it MIGHT effect double teams - for example, is a SG more likely to end up participating with the PG in a double team than a SF?

Right now my two deep for guards is:

PG) Scott, Stonge
SG) Donnellan, Stonge

With either Donnellan or Scott at #3

Yeah it was late.

I just want to bump this.... Donnellan is my second leading scorer, shooting 43% from the floor. I love the dude.
