Advanced Statistics? Topic

Adding more stats is one of the simple changes that could be made.  I'd like to Ast/TO ratios, effective FG%, PPS, +/-, statistics adj to 40 mins (for players), usage rates, and stats adj for possessions (for team).
Also, would like to have a button on team's career high pg to see career highs in the last 25 seasons.
Also, could add single game highs onto player pgs.

For HD, I find a lot of the stats can be misleading, telling me my backup big man with 40 ath is the best player on my team.  I do find eFG% to be helpful and over some time I have developed my own offensive formula.  It's not for deciding who should be on the court but rather who gets the distro.  It's something I feel like I can rely on now at the end of the season to help me set my distro for post-season play.  Anyone else have their own stats?

It doesn't tell you who is the best, it tells you who has been the most effective, which is not the same thing.  ANy data you get has to be read with a grain of salt and analysis.

Just wondering, if any data you get has to "be read with a grain of salt", why even bother in the first place?  Not trying to be a smartass, just curious.

Because even "with a grain of salt", it could be helpful.  Don't treat the advanced metrics as gospel... but they could still be useful.

It's more than just a grain of salt -- more like a gigantic bag. With the sample sizes we are working with, these stats can literally reflect the exact opposite of reality.

Also in favor of HD adding advanced stat options. It's a stat-based game after all, seems like a logical direction for a future update...

In the worksheet I build a few years ago, I looked at % of attempts and % of score for FG and FG3, possession efficiency,% of possessions that end up in at least one point, offensive reb%, defensive reb%, total reb%, TO% and Def TO%. In the later versions I also added PER and PER 40 stats, but I forgot how to do those calculations. I just started back up but I certainly think that looking at some of those stats are helpful.

How many of you out there use advanced statistics to analyze your team/other teams?  I know I asked this question about a year and a half ago and a couple people said they used them, but I was surprised at how many had never even thought about doing it.  So, with all that time passing, I was wondering how many people nowadays used advanced stats?  If so, which ones do you use?  If you don't feel like disclosing them on the forums I'd love to have a sitemail discussion about some of these advanced stats.
I messed with some Ken Pomeroy type things for my starting line-ups here and there to find out who my most efficient offensive players were.  Helped determine distribution for me.

Nothing extensive beyond that.

Even if the +/- isn't the most effective stat in judging how to gameplan your team, I still think it would be very awesome to see how my players are doing while they are on the court. I also think it would be very cool to use the +/- in the record category to see who the best + player was in history of the school, and maybe even who the worst - player was.

no reason not to have +/-, it's becoming a very mainstream stat, it's not like we're asking for apm here!

but they aren't a favorite to do this

Jones, not sure what you're saying there ...

simply saying that while sample size is a real problem, stats are unlikely to reflect "the exact opposite of reality." there's some variance but we're likely to get a reasonable convergence on something like shooting %s, for instance.
