One thing i've thought could help new users grasp the game quicker is to have info boxes associated with key ternm.  For instance, if I am on the practice page and click athleticism, a info box will appear telling me the basic function of athleticism.  Also, under the explanation would be a link to the search function in the forums showing everything that has ever been discussed on the subject.  I think most new users don't notice the search function. If they did they could avoid making some rookie mistakes and not ask a question that has previously been asked.
ahh, finally a unique suggestion that would go miles in addressing the problem of getting new coaches acclimated to the game easier.  Most innovative "new" idea I've seen in quite some time, esp. from the perspective of WIS.  The info box could be applied to a wide-range of subjects on every HD page, basically a "What's this?" kind of superscript you see on many other sites.

This is a good idea.

You could explain that Conditioning improves Ath/Spd/Stm on the practice page, etc.

Bingo.  Do that today.

Agreed with the above -- good, simple idea that would be a real help to new coaches.

(And veteran ones that are a bit challenged, like reinsel.)

What you're suggesting sounds a lot like EA Sports' NCAA Basketball 10 game.

Thanks for the support guys.  I started with one of those free seasons a few years back and it probably took me five seasons to get all the basics down.  There is a coach who I have been talking to who had previously played (years ago), but was unaware potential had been implemented.  I just always think that many coaches quit because it is too much to grasp and anything to lessen the learning curve would improve retention rates.

+1 to both posts.

This. This is what I was going to post but you beat me to it.... what has been suggested here with the facilities/campus improvements/coaching staff is a lot more like a Dynasty Mode in a video game, specifically NCAA Basketball 10 by Blake Griffin.

This product is much different than a video game... more mathematical and formulaic, and turning it into a similar/identical product to a video game would be a shame. The two are different for a reason, and people here (especially a lot of the veterans, I'd imagine) would be upset and leave if changes that would make HD like a video game were implemented.

Wow, I love therewas47 idea for info boxes-- It would be good to know how the developers and the engine define certain issues rather than searching for ideas that are often not consistent.  I also think dahs has a great point in understanding that right now, success ensures more success, and that undermines people staying with the game and moving forward.  True champions would want to be challenged so making it more difficult for those with success to enjoy continued success would not only give them something to strive for but would allow others to stick with the game.  I can tell I am hundreds of dollars away from being in a competitive division I situation and am debating on investing that time and money for a game that even the veterans complain about working properly.
It also seems like CS is aware of issues and it would be nice to have a timeline on when those fixes would be implemented.  Let's add some accountability in making improvements as every season I feel more and more like a sucker.
My own suggestion is that categories need to be more linked.  If I increase my speed 30%, my athleticism should at least increase some and vice versa.  If I increase my blocking by 30%, my defense should improve as well.  I understand that my overall defense is affected but an increase in blocking, but how does a player become twice as good of blocker over four years, but his defense is still the same?  Making it more logical would help newbies who are thinking in terms of basketball and not the sim.

One other thing that I keep wondering is about firings-- Doesn't it show that WIS knows and understands they have serious issues if they are hestitant to fire DIV I coaches?  It would seem that if they wanted to attract new talent, they would increase firings and also advertise that-- It would mean more then to be able to stay at a school for an extended length of time and bring in fresh meat.  Right now, as a young player, you see the complaints and quickly realize that you might be able to be competitive if you get in the right DIV 2 or 3 conference, but seems like a really long route to be successful at DIV I.
I have read the other sides point of view that they have stuck it out and deserve to be there but the game is drastically different now then when they "earned" that right so the only reason I see allowing them to maintain that standing is WIS' understanding that because of program issues, if they lose those long-timers, they won't be able to replace them.  Businesses that operate from a mentality of scarcity are doomed to long term failure and would think that if someone at WIS doesn't realize this, someone at Fox most definetely would.
Anyways, just a thought and good to see that some of the long-timers have a 'Warren Buffet' mentality themselves.  My respect level has greatly increased for DAHS and therewas.

Something that popped to me when it comes to recruiting is the distance portion of the search. It should be more specific, for example we can only search at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 1000 miles, we should be able to set a much more specific distance. There are 3 major bumps in recruiting costs, from 10-200 miles there is incremental increases and then over 200 miles you get big bump, and then 200-360 you get the incremental increases with a big bump coming at 360, and then more incrememntal bumps from 360-1400 before another big bump at 1400, I think there is another big bump after that but that's mostly just for international recruits. So I think it would be helpful if you could recruit between distances, for example be able to see all recruits from 200-360 miles, instead of seeing all recruits within 400 miles.

Good one, I also wish we had this feature.  It would be helpful to search, say, b/w 300-400 miles or the like, esp. in D3.

Definitely in favor.

It might seem complicated. . but I would like the ability to use BOTH target minutes and fatigue in the same depth chart, to a degree.  Say. . I want my team to sub based on fatigue, but fred, I absolutely want to get ten minutes;  I made a promise.  Or somehow have a way to code in that you want a specific player to reach a certain benchmark in a game.

Not sure exactly how that would WORK though
