Do I have a legitimate gripe (re: Jobs) Topic

I am shocked no one took advantage of the players I left there

I think are off by just a tiny bit for Florida. I am step backwards for Florida right now, and our resume are pretty similar. I have 2 extra NT and 1x PIT appearance, you have gone deeper in the most recent NT.

I have always thought that it makes no sense to deny human coaches out of hand for these good schools.  Almost any human coach who has been coaching at 1A in a world for 6-8 seasons is better than a SIMAI coach for a team.

Make the minimum requirements for these teams much lower and let a bunch of human coaches apply, then pick the most qualified.

It is ridiculous that we have to let a team get 4 full years of crappy SIM recruited players before we let a human take over the team.
If you're talking about a good BCS program, they'll always get taken. Sometimes right away, sometimes it does take a few seasons (four seasons for Florida is extremely long).

But I think lowering standards for good BCS schools is a mistake. It should really mean something and take a serious effort to get a job like that.

If you're talking about a non-BCS program that's been elevated by a human coach who leaves, then yes, I would agree with you there. Those programs can often go dormant for very long times, and the qualifications for them should be made easier (i.e. less dependent on their prestige at that moment and more dependent on baseline).
The reason Florida is taking awhile to fill in Phelan is because the ACC is off the charts dominant in this world, while the SEC is usually the weakest of the BCS conferences. The ACC routinely gets $55-$60K in bonus money per season, while the SEC is usually around $15K. It would be very difficult for Florida to compete against FSU and Miami in that situation, and that probably scares a lot of qualified coaches off.

+1. ACC is at 61k postseason cash, with Florida State and Miami having staggered classes (Florida St. graduate 5 this year, Miami graduate 5 next year). Within the SEC, Arkansas looks like a better team to build up than Florida.

Hmm, I am considering picking up a team in phelan again. I liked the MWC but progress seems to have stalled there and only Wyoming is open. Florida is a mess but I know I could do pretty well there. Va Tech is a mess but with their bonus money and the elite conference competition it is a tempting challenge. Lastly building up the A10 could be rewarding but the gigs available there aren't catching my fancy.

What does the WIS community think?

I'm leaving the mwc. Tsu is in a great position to make a run and I'd love someone to take over when I leave. I'm going to mizzou, my Alma, could pass it up again.

If you can get others to join you, I would go into the A-10 as well to build it up ala CUSA in Rupp style.

It would be significantly easier, as the schools there are generally B-ish baseline vs. the C baseline in C-USA.

I kind like the sound of TSU, but if I could get a big time coach or two to join a10 or c-USA or the likes I may consider it.

Dac you up for A-10? If you and fatchance are in, I'm game.

thanks, but I've already got that need fulfilled with UCF in that CUSA thing... I've been grooming Phelan for a run at a good baseline fallen on hard times, and I am close...if Florida stays open and we replicate this season's level of success I think I'll be able to get that gig next time around... A-10 might be a problem for some, I remember when we were initially choosing  a conference for the Rupp thing a couple of us wanted A-10 but most of the initial group wasn't qualified but were for CUSA...

Tiyani and fatchance, please join the A-10! Build it and they will come (haha sorry I had to)!
4/27/2012 7:16 AM
Almost tempted to try the a10 in pheln ... But reluctant to leave fgc.

If arssanguinus and tianyl7886 both to come to the A-10 or another conference we agree upon I am in. Otherwise TSU is looking like the spot for me. If one of you two took Wyoming and I take TSU the MWC would be set to be set to become a perennial top 4 or better conference.

In that case, I'll wait it out another season as well, with VA Tech and Wisconsin both within grasps next season.
