What Made WIS Want to Include D2 and D3? Topic

This thought just came across my mind, and I'm wondering if others have ever thought the same... Why did WIS include D2 and D3 in Hoops Dynasty?

Seeing that the worlds are (obviously) not fully populated, and in the beginning users had to start at D3, why didn't they just make it D1 only and the coaches could only start at low prestige schools? Seems like it would make more sense that way based on the population numbers.

I think it makes the game more complete.  I like that you have to work your way up.  Given that the worlds are not full, it seems like they might have started too many of them.

Agreed on the "started too many of them" statement, but as for the "you have to work your way up," they could've just made it D1 only and allowed users to start at D baseline prestige schools or whatnot and work their way up in D1 itself... think of it like a dynasty mode in a college basketball video game

I like the fact that both D2 and D3 are included, but it kind of only appears to the diehards or people who's alma maters are D2/D3. I think that coaching a D1 school right away would be more attractive for a lot of people, and if there were no D2 and D3, the challenge level would be equivalent to a low-level D1 conference so you could still learn without jumping right into the thick of things.

Put another way, if there was no D2 and D3 and only D1 (as it currently works), a lot of us wouldn't be playing HD.

Me included.

Too many worlds were/are definitely a problem.  When I started several years ago,  if you wanted to join a world and get even a halfway decent D3 team, you had better be on the website the minute the world rolled over or you were out of luck.  The day Tark opened, I tried to grab a team about 15 minutes after the world opened and EVERY team was already taken (literally).

Well my point is that if there weren't any D2 or D3, we wouldn't know any better, making the lower levels of D1 more like D2 and D3

But I'm also just realizing that you can turn a D2 or D3 team into a powerhouse, something you can't really do at the low levels of D1, so that's a main difference, although if we didn't know any better then that expectation would not be there.

If there were more two a day worlds I would join.  I am not a fan of the one a day.  Which are more popular?

I prefer the one-a-day.  It's all I can do to gameplan once a day. LOL

The two-a-days were added after a number of coaches requested them

I have zero desire to play DI. It seems like most of the problems people complain about in this game are DI problems, plus, I like the flexibility of lower levels where if I miss the beginning of recruiting it doesn't completely mess me over like DI would.

As far as the number of worlds..... when this game first started, Div 3 was filled every season.  Players in each world had multiple teams and also in multiple worlds as everyone was on equal footing in the race for the big dog teams.  Demand was high for teams and they had to create new worlds to keep up with demand.

Several things happened.....

1) The top teams were grabbed and those who got those teams stated to give up some of their teams.

2) A lot of people just got burned out and quit the game

3) Fox bought WIS and used their guys to work on Fox games and this game started to become a stagnant game.

4) Advertising for this site is small time.  If WIS started advertising this game with Facebook banner ads and buying ad banners on some of the other sports sites, they could start filling this game with a ton of new blood and regenerate the excitement it once had.

Fox sports doesn't understand the gold mine they are sitting on.  This game could be expanded very quickly if they would invest just a little bit of money doing so.  I think it would be very worth the money to advertise better.

There is still not enough in place to keep new players in the game, it's a combination of a bunch of things.

1 being that players want to get to D1 ASAP which leads to them either realizing they can't or jumping up to D2 too early, not being good and quitting.

2. The help for rookies is bad outside of the forums, and not all new uers check the forums. The game guides really are not helpful when it comes to the intricacies of the game. If you don't get yourself a mentor you are probably going to quit the game after 1 season.

I think the biggest thing WIS needs to do before any type of marketing push is to really put an orientation together for new players to help keep them around, let them understand the sense of community in the game and don't just send them into recruiting with no real idea of what is going on.

I think that saying coaches will probably quit after their first season unless they were mentored is a just bit overdramatic, no?  I'll agree that coaches who have been spoonfed and babied their whole lives and can't accept losing or putting in any effort on their own probably will quit, but these are the same people who will quit anything the minute it gets a little tough or things don't go their way.  Most of these folks are part of the Instant Gratification generation.

Well said and i agree 100%

Having D2/D3 (a) makes them game more varied, interesting and textured and (b) makes getting to DI feel like a real accomplishment. D2/D3 play differently than DI does. I really like having them.

As others have said above, D3 used to be full. Over expansion was the beginning of the end of that, and other flaws mentioned have contributed as well. Run/marketed properly, I think it would be pretty easy to have D3 full or close to it.
