Early Entry Sophomore bench player? Topic

Really?

If there's 2 things that seem weird in HD it's consistency on EE's and the jobs process.  The jobs process is completely broken, while EE's are just very random.

It's ridiculous, grant.

This is why many coaches choose not to play at D1... I am hesitant until they fix some of these issues people keep complaining about.

is this a Dion Waiters thread?

I know. It really seems like a player should have to be top 25 in a stat, or maybe top 50 in 2 or more stats be go early. Even a Junior, Paul Knight. 9 pts, 6 reb, 1.5 blk, 1 stl per game. He may be legit EE material, but I just dont see it.

due to coaches hiding star players behind low minutes and poor stat lines, admin removed (or made it a very small factor) stats from the early entry process.

I can see that, but that strategy hit me hard. Now I lose a Junior who couldnt produce, but may have been able to turn the corner his Senior year. Because of his overall rating. Next time I guess I should re-evaluate mid-season and if he is not producing, put all of his practice time in FT shooting so he wont develop any more.

So what is the minimum rating for an EE, 850? Team has to make the NT?

Absolutely not. Then coaches would just artificially hold players back like they used to, and keep them for four seasons. That was awful, and people gamed it constantly.

This aspect is actually kind of like real life: Kids that are studs -- and make no mistake, the soph that grant lost was a stud -- may leave early. I have zero problem with this kid leaving.

There is no min rating, nor should there be. It's about core ratings. There are guys rated 750 that are significantly better than those rated 850.

Your "not producting" thing is silly ... if a guy has really strong ratings, he's a good, valuable player. If he's "not producing" at midseason, it's really just sample size, not that he's not a "good" player.

I've lost a freshman bench player who averaged less than 5 minutes per game. Wasn't hiding him, I just had better options (mostly due to IQ). In fact, that same season, I also lost a second freshman bench player. Not saying it shouldn't happen or anything like that, but it's still frustrating and a real fly in the ointment for trying to stagger classes when guys are one and done. Two seasons and EE, you can plan for. It's those freshmen guys that catch you off-guard and really wreck your plans.

On a tangent issue regarding young players, if you kept the guy out due to IQ, but he was obviously good enough to leave early, is IQ too important in HD?

Not based on the example I cited. The guys ahead of him on the depth chart had comparable ratings and higher IQ, so IQ was the tiebreaker. It wasn't like I was valuing a letter grade of IQ over 125 ratings points or anything like that.
