I coach at NC State here, but I went to UNC, just waiting impatiently for it to open up (and hope it's after I've had a good season or 2)... I could never coach at duke unless I had decided to quit HD, and spent my last few seasons there destroying the program beyond repair.
As a UNC man myself, and coaching NC State on here, I really REALLY feel your pain.  It is excruciatingly hard to root for State to win every night.  Unfortunately when I came back it was the only Big 6 team that I qualified for.

My dream jobs are: D3 Eastern Mennonite University as I was the public address announcer for their men and women's basketball teams, D2 Elizabeth City State University as I went to school in Elizabeth City and would play ball on their court a couple times a year and D1 UNC obviously.

For DIII - Colorado College or Palm Beach Atlantic.  I love the isolation
For DII - Rockhurst University (master degree from there.)  I'm coaching there now.
Also DII - Grand Canyon.  Isolation Part II
For DI - University of South Florida (alma mater.)  Been there and done that in several worlds.
Also DI - Hawaii.  The ultimate in big-budget isolation.

Ultimate dream job - University of Kansas - (I live near Kansas City.)  I'll probably never get it.

That's funny Wronoj.  I've got my dream job at Duke in Tark (have been a fan for 26 years) and could NEVER see myself coaching UNC, even in a game like this.  Ironically, even though I'm a huge Duke fan, I was accepted at Chapel Hill myself.  Circumstances arose that kind of forced me to attend a different school (Indiana State, alma mater of some guy named Bird or something like that.  He's probably the second most famous person to attend that school, right behind yours truly, ha ha), but like you (only with opposite schools obviously), the only reason I would take a job at UNC would be to destroy the program right before I quit HD.  Screw the $h!t Heels!
I'm the same way emy, although since I live outside Baltimore, I would probably coach UNC before that team in College Park. I had the ultimate destination experience in Allen, I won the National Title at my alma mater, Maine, and then moved to the dream school Duke the next season. I've also won a D3 NT at a local school where I took classes, Johns Hopkins.

In addition to Maryland and UNC, since I went to Maine, I'd never coach at New Hampshire, or either Boston University or Boston College.

can the two of you do that in tark please? It might really help my Bama team
Dacj, problem is, I'm already at Duke in Tark, so there's NO chance of me going to UNC in that world.  Besides, Swiners has that team so stacked, it would take a lot of work to wreck them.

Acn, I remember you winning that title at Maine, that was awesome!  My parents and both my brothers live in the Baltimore area and I lived there for a little over a year.  Just waaaaay too crowded for me.  I'm out in the sticks now and although there isn't a whole lot to do (especially compared to Baltimore), I enjoy the slow paced lifestyle a whole lot more.

How is Kansas in Tark a SIM coached school?!?!
5/13/2012 5:09 PM
Kansas is a hard school to coach as far as the elites go.  It's a very sparse area to find elite recruits.  I was coaching Kansas in Allen and got so tired of having to look 500, 1000 or more miles away for a 5 star recruit that I left.  Granted, I look back and majorly recruit leaving there, but the way the SIM engine is built, KU is a very hard place to be, so most people would rather turn a team like Purdue, Villanova or Arkansas into an elite A+ school with the help of conference prestige than try to recruit in a baron land of very few stud recruits.

Their coach jumped to the ACC and no one else qualified or qualified coaches in A+ schools don't feel like leaving. This happens quite a bit for high prestige programs. Look at NC State in Phelan. It won the NC, coach jumped to UNC, and most other coaches are longshot for the program.

Also, the Kansas job came open really late, I think he was accepted at Georgia Tech at the 11 pm est cycle on the last day of jobs. Other coaches would only have had an hour relatively late to decide to jump.

Having coached Kansas for close to twenty seasons, I can attest to the difficulty in recruiting there; I rarely if ever had an instate player on the roster and had most of the coaches in the 500 mile radius ****** at me because of recruiting...In two recruiting periods at UCLA, I already notice the difference. ---- Back to the subject of this thread, my dream job is UNC...I passed on it once because I had just started at Kansas and Ive regretted the decision ever since...If you have a chance to get the school you want, TAKE IT!

I've always been interested if there's any connection between the HD jobs that Coaches have and their real-life loyalties. I know some Coaches want to coach their alma mater, and that would indeed be a sweet HD gig. In my case I took the Oberlin [Knight]  job mainly  because it was in my home state of Ohio. If I had to start all over again I'd want these jobs-of course one of my D1 dream jobs is just that-a dream, lol.

DIII: Otterbein [20 minutes away from where I live in Ohio. Held it for many Seasons in Phelan]
Bethany [Huge WV sports fan, all divisions]
DII: Fairmont State [WV-this would be my ultimate DII spot and it's been open more often than filled.]
       West Virginia Wesleyan [WV]
       Shepherd [WV]
Wheeling Jesuit [WV-coached there in Phelan and left for DI-mistake]
DI: Marshall [WV...after my E8 appearance I'm qualified for this spot]
West Virginia University [This would be my ultimate DI spot, but I've tried D1 in Phelan and, uh, no thanks. It's also my alma mater as well.]
      Toledo [Wife's alma mater]

As you can see, my real-life loyalites play a huge part of where I do [and would] coach. I follow West Virginia colleges, all divisions, so it fits that I would love any of these jobs.

So, why are you where you're at?

Your wish list is pretty much right along side my wishlist as im from WV and want to try and grab those schools if/when they become available.

I'm currently coaching:
Fisk (Smith) - 2nd season there (this was my 1st HD team)
E. Conn State (Rupp) - i just grabbed this team

Theres really no rhyme or reason why i chose those other than they had established teams with human recruited players and I didnt want to take a rebuild as a newbie :)

DII - i will be looking at
concord (attended basketball camp here twice as a teen)
bluefield (have been to this campus, buddy of mine was on their golf team and is about 2 hrs from where i live now)
charleston - I live 45 mins from campus
fairmont - really no reason other than it being in wv (its been occupied for like 30 seasons by same person in smith so it may never come open)
wv state - 20 mins from my house, i dont particularly like the school but its close to home
Glenville state - hate the location, had a scholarship to go here coming out of high school and turned it down to goto wv tech

If/When i ever make it up to DI, I will be going after Marshall 1st and foremost (alma mater) with the hopes of eventually landing syracuse down the road should it ever become available (they're my favorite college bball team)..my backup school will be wvu
