Any Hints for a small D1 to pull 1st Round Upset?? Topic

Rider is facing Syracuse tonight in a 3/14 matchup so we're the heavy underdogs.  Don't expect the upset with the ratings disparity but it's my third season in D1 and second in the tourney so I'm definitely still in learning mode.  Do you guys tend to keep your same game plan strategies (uptempo/press for me) or make drastic changes when you go up against a significantly better team in every position?  Thanks for your thoughts!

without taking a look at the teams - I'm guessing Syracuse is more athletic, faster etc than you? In that case running uptempo into that buzzsaw is suicide IMO. Normal press is a much better choice most of the time I believe in this situation. If your starters are much better than your bench slowdown is better. I know that the logic of more possessions means more chances for the RNG to hit your lucky number, but the decrease in performance isn't usually worth the trade off...

I would actually think slowdown, increasing the chance for a random result and if you have three shooters, shoot the heck out of 'em and hope the shooters get hot.

If I were you, I would go buy a lottery ticket and play all your backups for this game. If you are going to get very lucky, might as well be in the lottery rather in this fake game of ours.

gonna be tough, but I've seen bigger upsets

Great effort!  Even though you lost, you were within 10 with 11 minutes remaining

The first thing i look at when i play a DI juggernaut is IQ. Attack the frosh or the lower IQ's available. I lost by 6 to a #2 seed two years ago in the NT doing that.

Thanks allblack56! Amazingly enough I even had the lead for a split second early in the second half but then they overwhelmed me.  A good season overall though, i wasn't even expecting to make the big dance after a couple bad losses but I won my conference tournament.

Thanks again for everyone's help.  Bottom line is I still need better players! :)
