While scrolling through various CCs looking for something to do, I came across this list of "rules" being laid out for some new conference members. Can't seem to paste the copy here, so I guess I'll just link to the CC. The world is Allen, so if you don't have a team there not sure you'll be able to read it...

Please note the part telling coaches not to battle conference mates...I thought this was explicitly a no-no?

Ha I'm in that conference and felt the list was a bit much, you'll also notice I wrote before this post was made and tried to clarify what I think he meant which I think is perfectly fair, that there is no rule against battling conference mates, just that generally one shouldn't poach a conference mate. I don't think there are many people who disagree with that

There might not be many, but I would.

And I think you are being a bit disingenuous. It seems pretty clear what he meant. He even put DON'T and NOT in all caps for emphasis...
Your post covered your own *** sufficiently I suppose, but clearly at least one coach there believes that there is a hard and fast "rule" for your conference regarding recruiting, and that "rule" is collusive... maybe he just doesn't know?

I'm ok with giving benefit of the doubt and using this as a learning opportunity for folks...no harm, no foul...but let's not try to paint it as anything other than what it is...

Collusion imo.

oh no don't get me wrong, I think what he said was wrong. My post wasn't about trying to cover my *** it was more to say, I think this is how battling conference mates should work and there shouldn't be a hard rule.

I guess I'm just trying to say what he wrote doesn't speak for the conference and there has never been a hard rule like that laid out. Though we have had 2 coaches battle and hate each other over it followed by people saying things like "that's why I don't battle conference mates" but that is far from establishing a rule or colluding on players

I'm mostly feeling you mjp, but I'd go one further and say that the only rule in recruiting is every man for himself. Anything else that restricts recruiting options against some schools but not others is, well, not good...

The truth is, whether he said it or didn't say it any coach could still do anything he wanted. We don't have any power to band together and kick out a coach for not following a rule (not saying the rules are set rules).

It was stupid to say and clearly is his opinion not to do that, but there is nothing in place that would ever stop any coach from recruiting his way other than feeling judged by conference mates and how much do you care what someone on the internet thinks about you for playing your way?

me personally, I don't really care much at all, but who's to know how the new coaches in your conference will feel? We agree it was wrong to say, and I'm not blaming you for it at all, and frankly, I'm guessing that the coach that posted it didn't think he was trying to break the rules or anything, which is why hopefully this can be a learning experience, like I said, no harm, no foul?

I'm only posting in this post so much because I want it on the record that I'm sure our entire conference thinks Court's post was stupid and there are no rules that coaches are forced to follow in the WVIAC. I may personally avoid battles with other conference coaches when I can, but I've also battled them in the past. We each can have our own opinion on if we choose to battle a conference mate or not and Court expressed his but he did not lay out an actual rule in the WVIAC

I agree, luckily the 2 new coaches we picked up were vets who will probably read it and say F that guy, rather than feeling forced into following rules.

I'm sure Court will think twice in the future about posting things like that.

His non-con scheduling rules are also incredibly stupid and backwards for a power conference...

Illegal to tell people to avoid battles in conference.

Truth is we were never really a power conference. This year we finished top 3, maybe 2 years in a row, but we typically have been top heavy with a few great teams then very bottom heavy.

Just an FYI, I don't think his scheduling ideas were off for how our conference has had to be as much as they were just written in a way to turn people off
