Newbie in a ol-lot of trouble! Topic

3 of the Freshman have a potential high in DE, and the other 3 a medium potential. Stroup is deceiving, he has a potential high in SPD, DE, REB, and SB--and a high WE--he should be fine. Admittedly, my centers, who have low  ATH will be a liability on defense (studs in LP, REB & SB), but I plan on hiding them in the zone. Not that I know what I'm doing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My biggest concern is that my school's prestige is going to take a beating over the next few seasons, as our win/loss record will be brutal, because I'm starting these guys!

Thanks!

I would recruit only solid players, even if it means you only get 4 good players. At D3, unless you have a high prestige B+ to A+, you should concentrate on only recruiting players that will help you and don't fill up scholarships just to fill them up.

Without high potential in ATH Stroup will never be average.

I just looked at your class now; solid job. I don't know how your JUCO will help, but I'd say concentrate on looking for guards and small forward's that pass well and athletic bigs that can rebound and block shots.

I would put extra time (maybe 25 minutes) into practicing defense as well. If your not going to have good defenders in a zone, you can get away with it if your guys have excellent IQ.

I agree with this. He won't be athletic enough to play the 4 nor skilled enough to play the 3. He's gona have to come off the bench eventually as a role player at the 3 and 4. And by role player I mean third on the depth chart at both spots.

ALSO, don't worry too much about prestige. You're at D3 so you won't fall below C-. Prestige isn't too big of a deal at D3 anyway as 80% are in the range from B- to C-.
You'll be fine.

Prestige in DII and DIII isn't a big deal.   It's only really important in WHO will sign with you and if you recruit within 70 miles that doesn't even matter.

I haven't looked at your recruits so don't take this as a comment on that, but the recruiting rankings don't mean a darn thing.
I have been wondering about that...Are they not based on core potentials?
I don't think rankings even take potential into consideration. Overall rating plays a large part, which is why teams who sign multiple JUCO's are often at the top of the rankings.

I know a lot of new coaches are skeptical when they hear that prestige doesn't matter, so here is some concrete proof. Zwatts82 took over D3 Methodist in Allen four seasons ago. He signed his first recruiting class with a C prestige and his second with a C+ prestige. Today, with his first class now in their senior year, Methodist is the #1 team in Allen D3 (albeit two games into the season). It can be done folks.

also, you should schedule fairly light for the first season or 2. Your SOS will suck, but if you're only playing sims, you should win most of them, and even with a bad SOS, wins will get you to a decent rpi and a nicer looking W/L record.
