a few things to start off.  i know that someone will say get better players.  i plan on it after the sim guys i have graduate, but this is an empty' player year for me to carry over the money to the big recruiting class.  after having said that, i want to maximize the wins i get in that empty year to see if i can move the prestige up just a bit, maybe sneak into the nt or at least pt, if possible.  either one would probably bump up my prestige.

i guess i'm just looking for some ideas to think about during recruiting while everyone else is getting their new players.  any comments on how to get the most out of this roster next year would be appreciated.

if you don't like the post, why reply?  I'm not looking for a detailed plan, just a few ideas.  myself, i don't get the people who seem to need to get up on a high horse like that.  no offense intended.

For those who don't want to look it up- it's a DIII team running FB/Press (at least the IQs are that way)

Keeping in mind I'm a average coach so others may know more.
IMHO- dump the FB/Press.  If you're going to live with 8 sim players for two seasons (this and next), you cannot do much with those ATH/SPD/DEF combos.  (This comes from a guy who can't run the FB/Press...)

Other notes- Brooks is not a good player.  A 2 ATH, 1 DEF will get him killed at the 1-3 spots in any defense (thus the 3.4 fouls per game in only 13 minutes).  His speed helps, but I don't believe any 2 ATH, 1 DEF player should be on a roster as he will just be giving free trips to the stripe.
In general, your DEF is too low, especially for a press.
Lower Hughes' distro.  Although he's leading you in scoring, he's only shooting 46% for 2-pointers.
You also need someone with some ATH and LP to score on the inside.  20/80 is nice, but that only is getting you 49%.
I would suggest as well to recruit guys with better potential.  Trent is already at his ceiling, and he wouldn't even crack the back of the bench as a senior on my DIII team (from my rating system).

I know you don't want this advice, but especially since you can only sign six in a class, I would HIGHLY recommend that you cut some players and get in the right guys.

Just my general observations, and frankly I'm impressed you managed to get that group up to a 13-15 record and 201 RPI.

I only have the players for one season, and i'm not cutting anyone this year because it would get rid of the caryover cash for this upcoming season.  i am doing no recruiting this coming offseason(the season hasn't rolled over yet)  trent was a mistake.

so, again.  these are the players i will have for next season(all one class advanced)

when it rolls over the season after this one, i am going to either be running the fb press with more appropriate players recruited or i will be moving to whatever combination of offense and defense is best represented in the class.  and i can recruit jucos and the like.  so ... again.  i am not interested in 'cut this guy' ... at least for next season.

i want to keep 100% of my carryover that i can keep with an empty class.

i took the team with 8 juniors on it, recruited by the sim. this was the first season.  upcoming is those players last season.   to put it another way, yes I KNOW these are 'crap players'  i am completely aware.  i don't want to sacrifice my 100% carryover, so i am keeping these crap players for next season.   i want to minimize the pain of these 'crap players' by making them do as well as i possibly can.  these players.  not some other set of players.    so i am trying to figure out how to get creative with them and maximize whatever gifts they do have, and minimize their flaws.  switching off playing fast break and press with a bunch of seniors is no good.

and if a couple of overtime games had bounced the other way it would have been 15 - 13, (ot game and five ot game)  then seven more losses (
by 6,5,3,7,4,6,7 were winnable games late.  but anyway, that was last season.  this will be this coming season.

My mistake...i thought forums were for ideas on the game not how to manage your team. I think they have a mentor area for that.

*For New Players*: Mentor List
still can't dismount the high horse, i see.  if i wanted a mentor i would ask for a mentor.  i'm just trying to get some random ideas to think about and possibly use some of.  if you don't like that, there is absolutely no reason you can't pretend this thread doesn't exist.

And I understand that's not the advice you wanted.  From my seat, (and again, I'm average to above average, not great), there are about four things I would do, and I know that 1 is unacceptable to you.)

1- Change O/D, at least in practice- start setting up for next season, since the Seniors will not be needing much more IQ.
2- Adjust distro- on the guards especially ATH/SPD are huge for FG% and scoring (PER is mostly 3 pt shooting), so pull back on guys shooting under 50% on their 2-pters
3- The lineup I have on my Mot/Man spreadsheet (I don't have a FB one) would have Forrest starting over Simpson.
4- Cut at least one player (if you have enough cash to recruit one)- the carryover cash for this next season is only $500 in conference money from this season, so unless you've saved a large amount (edited for 100% instead of 25%) is not a lot.

Hopefully there will be some other advice, and I know mine isn't the kind you really sought, but I wanted to make sure at least some was offered.

If you have a zero-scholarship year, 100% of what you have going into the recruiting period remains.
