I'm trying to figure out at what PER rating I should set my guys to anything other than -2... is it 50? or 60? Is the decision also based on the individual's FT rating, as it is less likely for them to draw fouls at a higher + setting? Also do you vary this by defense. Thanks.

I never use +2. I use +1 at 90 or higher PER. generally use -1 between 70 and 80. Between 80 and 90 depends on the player.

I'm generally at plus 1 for 85 and higher. 75-85 at 0. 60-75 at -1.

i only play d2, so keep that in mind if comparing to posts above. I +1 in 4 situations (NEVER +2):

1. if i know (read: can make an educated guess) that a team is going to cheat back (-3 or more) against me and i want to keep them honest, i'll +1 one of my guards.
2. in a similar vein, if i want to avoid or take advantage of a potential shift in half time settings (i.e., my bigs are loaded with distro, and i know that either opp adjusts every half time or if i'm winning, etc), i may be able to exploit a 2nd half opening), so i'll +1 my best 3 pt shooter.
3. when i have a player that's unathletic (< 40) but fast (70+) with good per (70+) matched up against a more athletic but slower defender, i'll +1.
4. Against the 2-3 zone i like to put in a per shooting sf and +1 one or both of my guards.

i can't believe the simple answers to this question.  jtt nailed it...there's several factors that go into that decision and they should be made for each game.  #3 here is extremely critical

#3 and #4 are both important.

I generally go +1 with anyone 70 in PER and see what the results are. If they are shooting a good % then I keep it, if not then I go back to 0.

Why do you guys never go +2, even with a guy who is 90+ PER? Just curious. For the first time I have a team that is heavily reliant on players with high PER for scoring and I'm wondering if I've been gameplanning them wrong. Bluffton in Iba, for anyone who wouldn't mind giving some input. I have my 94 PER on +2, my 88 and 83 PER on +1 and my 89 PER on 0 (He hasn't been particularly efficient from 3 for whatever reason). My best LP guy is 79 and he doesn't start. My team jacks up about 25 threes per game and is shooting 39.2% on them (and 44.3% overall). Not sure if this is fine or if I need to turn them down a bit to be taking less 3's. Like I said, first time using a team reliant on perimeter shooting.

On the team stats, 41.8% from the perimeter is good enough for 25th place. So you're definitely one of the top shooting teams at 39.2%

I use +2 liberally....and despite the answers in this thread, I think +2 is used by many of the top coaches.

I rarely even go +1.  I find that guys who are good PER players tend to take plenty of 3's on their own.  I don't like the idea of forcing their hand to take more.

I can't believe multiple people have already agreed with #3 on this list.  I - and many coaches who are much better than me and whose opinions you actually care about - absolutely do not believe that individual ratings are compared for defensive matchups.  Telling people to compare ath or speed is reinforcing arguably the most prevalent major misunderstanding of how the sim works out there.

Stone cold correct.  The idea that #3 was "extremely critical" is far, far from correct.

I used to use +2 alot, but haven't recently because I can't seem to get those 99 per players like I used to.

In my (limited) experience, I've seen little to no difference between 0 and +1.  I'd be very interested to see a matched-set study which I'm sure nobody has been goofy enough to do.
