Recruit Evaluations Topic

I am the coach of a D3 school (Roanoke). I recently evaluated a player and he was evaluated to be a solid division II player, however looking at him, i just don't see it. With the right playing time and coaching will he become a monster by his senior year?

Seriously?

That message is just window dressing...

Give the guy a break - he appears to be new. I wish that they would do away with the evaluation messages because they are not only useless but misleading to newer players. I assume, though, that I am not a good enough coach (read: I never get my teams to a high enough prestige) for those notes to matter.

Kevo - never take the eval comments at the end at face value. Just look at the ratings and associated potential (if you can see it through FSS or get it from the eval).

By doing away with the evaluation messages, I mean the comment at the end about how the player might turn out, not the potential clues, offense and defense notes, and player interest level.

Wow...Didn't realize it would be so hostile, just asking a question but that's fine. Guess only HOFers can get taken seriously when posting. Thank you Tim

kev - are you using FSS for recruiting? (Future Stars Scouting)? - this is the best way to tell if your recruits are worthwhile. If you are not using this, make sure to do so. Sitemail me or look on the forums(there are many links to this) if you're unsure of how it works.

The eval responses at the bottom are just window dressing, however, I really like signing guys for D3 that it says "will be a D2 All American" The best window dressing IS attached to the higher rated players

and Kev, without having the FSS to see his potential... there's no way of knowing if he will develop into a good player or not.

and all seriousness aside...... the real gem to be gleaned from that guys Bio is that he's from Lockwood MO.
Being from southern Missouri myself... I can tell you that Lockwood is a true hot-bed of hoops.... or HBoH as we say around Lockwood

I have used it before, but only if i have several recruits i am interested in from the same state. I am kind of reluctant to spend the money if all the recruits im interested in are from different states. Is it worth getting FSS in several states, even in D3?

My response wasn't meant to be harsh, I just know I have had that same line given to me 50 times when I have asked something in the past. For a while I had thought that it was something that was worthwhile but people tell me otherwise.

Just me personally, but I can't think of the last time I signed a guy without seeing his FSS or several evals. At any level. (again, just me, and my only D3 team is in a conference with $6,000- $7,000 extra recruiting cash every season). I really don't think I could sign a guy without having some clue about his potential.... ever.
Possibly high D1 when the guy was an 800+ rated kid and didn't matter if he improved.
Wise use of your recruiting dollar is probably the most important aspect of the game. IMHO

Kev,
first... most important thing in HD is recruiting and getting the most from your recruiting dollar. #1.... nearly every coach who's played this game more than a year would have to agree with that I would think.
#2.... and this is almost as important as #1....... never... I repeat never, come on the forums and ask a question and get offended by an answer you recieve.
It ain't personal.... don't take it that way.
Mully is a great coach... there are several like him who can be blunt on here.... but don't let it git under your skin... OR let it keep you from coming back and asking questions..... If you survive long enough and get hooked by the game like alot of us you will learn from Mully... .

I FSS'ed Missouri during recruiting and depending on whether it's high or high-high on his potentials this post player should turn out to be a solid player. He won't score much but could provide some production, especially at DIII.

Without knowing potentials you aren't really recruiting, you're just gambling...
