What would you look for in the attributes of a player with this defense? ( I would assume, probably incorrectly, ath, spd, def, stam)
I also assume it has limited flexibilities, in no dble teams...though am confused most presses use a dble team.

Apreciate all thoughts

In order:

Speed, Ath, Def....everything else

Stamina is only important if you play less than 12 guys.

you can't double team a specific player because in the press you are always double teaming the ball. speed, ath and stamina are key.

High intel and spirit are important due to it's majical aspects. The press is high risk / reward.
It is very explosive yet unstable, casters playing FCP were once thought to be overpowered.

Stamina is important w/ a press. Ath, Spd are very important as well. It's a benefit to have high DEF, but you can get by with a few players with low DEF (be warned, though - those players will sometimes foul out quick if they have low DEF)

I haven't played a press in years, but the teams I've seen run a press most successfully in recent seasons almost universally have exceptionally high IQ's.

agree with jslotman. high IQ (B+ or better) is important.

Ok got it. Is it 'dramatically" more important than say a m2m?

Stamina is extremely important. You don't want to face a good team that goes uptempo on you, have 1 or 2 guys foul out and play the last 6min of the game with extremely tired players.

I'm wondering if ath is more important than speed lately.  My defense works better when i have a 50-60spd 70-80 ath guy in the backcourt than 70-80 speed and 30-50 ath guy.  Now maybe those extra 10 points in combined differences makes a difference.  Just saying I'm not sure it's cut and dry that speed is more important (which I, anyway, used to think).

I have run 3 teams in Press. It is my favorite.
Gds/SF Spd/IQ/Sta/D/Ath, in that order.
Bigs Ath/IQ/Sta/D/Spd, in that order.

I have had good press teams with bigs with speed in the 20's.

I think perimeter defense (FG% against and steals) is still a combination of SPD/ATH/IQ/DEF like all other defenses but speed is weighed more.   I have found that you can't get over 2.0 steals per game unless you have very high speed.
