Does this seem normal?  How do you compete against this?

Great pulldown or local-radius dropdown grab by foxbat!

Okay, check that, just noticed he's only a sophomore...INCREDIBLE pulldown or local-radius drop down by foxbat. Well recruited.

The overall number is pretty daunting, but he is certainly not unbeatable. A player with very high athleticism and defense could shut him down pretty well. Just doing a quick search in Phelan DIII shows plenty of guys with that combination. The player below would be a prime example of a guy that Coburn would have trouble scoring against.

The fact that he is a sophomore is certainly impressive, but again, he isn't completely unstoppable by any means. And also a large portion of that overall rating is from WE and DUR.

As someone with a similar player on a roster in terms of year and rating, I have the following simple advice: don't get so hung up on overall rating. I like that climbing LP, but he's not all that special once you get past the overall number (very good though, yes, so I'm not misquoted later).

Besides the high overall, what's so special about him? Clearly he's tapped out in everything except SB and LP. There are probably 50-100 better players in D3 Phelan alone.

Here's a true sophomore of mine, only 7 games in to the season

If you cut his WE, ST and DU in half he is still in the mid 600's as a sophomore.  I started looking at this because UW Stout (who destroys me 95% of the time) has two off the chart juniors right now.

Mid 600s at the end of his soph year, with all categories except 2 maxed out, isn't that impressive anymore. With 270+ points in sta/dur/we, and the rest of the points fairly scattered, this guy is nowhere near a stud for d3.

I would take either of my starting guards for Rochester over that guy in his senior year, and I consider them good but not elite D3 players.
