Simple Poll-like questions

Should a 75 STA player be able to play an entire game (man def/mot off) without ever getting very tired?

Should a 75 STA player be able to play an entire game (man def/mot off) without getting tired until the last few mins of a game?

IMO the last engine update nerfed the effects of stamina once again.  I think this has helped the re-emergence of the hated FCP defense.

I am under the impression 75 STA will keep a player in the game somewhere AROUND 20-25 minutes if he starts on the depth chart and you set everyone to "fairly fresh" for substitutions. That leads me to believe he could probably go maybe a max of 30 mpg if you let him get tired before he'd be shot.

This isnt the 1st time I've seen this, just the one that got me to posting about it.

No & No
  • Perry's stamina is 78 and his team sets at slowdown for the 1st half (although the 2nd half adjustments speed up the game remarkably early).   If both teams played slowdown deeper into the 2nd half, then maybe to both.
My impression is entirely in line with yours, mullycj.  That's probably not good for you as my opinions on this matter have been widely, if weakly (IMHO), discredited.

No to both.

Stamina is nearly an afterthought now.  In D3 at least I have seen teams compete very well the last few seasons with as few as nine (or once even eight) scholarship players.

In the previous press era at D3, the really good pressing teams would end the season with 90ish team stamina.  Nowadays that seems unnecessary, but also irrelevant because it's not practically possible.  (It is theoretically possible, but if you got that much stamina at D3 now you would have guys who never got tired but were also terrible at basketball.)

Also no to both.  This is also, for anyone still questioning, conclusive proof that going uptempo does approximately squat to tire out the opposition.

That other fallacy that Seble believes is that slowdown enables players to play longer on the court.  Anyone who has played a Princeton like motion offense where you play the clock down can attest that the constant cutting and picking wheres you out as much as any other offense.

And not to nit-pick but the player's STA was 77 at the time of the game so I rounded it to 75.

I take it then, Mullycj, that my Upper Iowa team shouldn't be playing slowdown? I've set it to slowdown because I thought my stamina was too low. Thanks for your thoughts.

Flash - Id be playing uptempo vs every team you are favored against with Upper Iowa.   Especially with Zone.   As long as you set your guys at fairly fresh STA you are fine with that roster (IMO).

I think that's a recipe for disaster, but I guess everyone has their own coaching philosophies.  Mully, take a closer look at his roster, it really ain't anything special.  He's got nice IQ's, yes, but his ratings aren't anything to write home about.  I wouldn't ever go past Normal with that team, but again, that's just me.

Yeah, mully. I lost to the #1 team in D3 by 6 points, what are you thinking telling me to run uptempo against the dregs of my conference? I mean, emy illiterated not once, but twice that my team is poopy. Sorry, I meant, nothing to write home about...

Wow, dude, if I realized you were so sensitive I wouldn't have posted.  As I ALSO said, each coach has his own philosophies on how to run their team.  My "opinion" is that you shouldn't run uptempo.  It's just MY "opinion".  You obviously have a different one, but there's no need to get your panties in a bunch.  Damn.

New one on me.  Maybe this is their way of dealing with the problem addressed here?  Also, did the trainer go back to grad school?

Sorry, I was chuckling as I typed out that response. I've noticed others taking such offense to opinions, I wanted to join in on the party. I am the first to admit my team looks a lot better overall than if you took a magnifying glass to it. No perimeter shooting is chief among my weaknesses. I think I have a solid make the NT team, then bow out in the first, maybe second round if the matchup was right.  I should have posted that it was meant sarcastically, no worries.
