Does reshirt/start/amount of minutes affect the rate as well?  All things being equal, what's your preference, a redshirt year for a freshman, a start (if he can actually start for you), or just solid minutes?

Okay, so as someone said, then when a coach or scouting report says "tremendous" improvement or something of the sort, that is to be taken as high/high I suppose.

Wow. I am learning a great deal here. (Keep in mind I only returned to the game a month or so ago after a layoff of about four or five years).

I'm definitely not the person to be giving advice bistiza, but yeah, someone linked to the google spreadsheet showing what the high/low and high/high scouting reports are.

What I've found is when I do FSS scouting for the state, I get every rating low, medium or high.  That gives me a good idea for every player in the state, if I scout them more I can see if he's a high/high in a particular rating or not, but at the least I'll know he's a high just by doing the FSS.  Does that make sense or am I rambling?

Playing time affects everything.  More playing time, higher WE, faster ratings increases.

My feeling is that a redshirt is almost always going to be better for the individual player in the long run, assuming the player is OK with it.  If his WE dips too much because he's ******, it may not be worth it.  Whether that's the best move for the team is another team-specific question.

dacj501 put together a listing of the scouting report responses and if they mean high or high/high for each category.  It's hosted on Google Docs here.
bistiza - check out the link above.  It will help you realize what message are high vs. high-high.  Very helpful document dac put together.

Appreciate the info - I get the differences a lot better now. I'd seen them before but didn't notice the difference until now. Thanks again.

Conference is going to get even tougher with you putting in some time to understand the game better bistiza.

Yeah but you still have the much better team. If I beat you, it's an upset no matter what, and would still be no slight to you as I think you're an NT lock either way.

keep in mind also that if a guy is at 80 or above - 79 or above - he cant possibly be high-high - we dont yet have guys at 105

I confess, that I usually dont worry too much about find out whether hi-hi or lo-hi - not clear to me that it is worth the cost.  Some folks care more.

That doesnt mean that I dont care sometimes - like if it is a close question or if I am looking at dipping down for a guy who appears (before looking at potential) to be too low for my team.  And, reasonable folks differ on this - perhaps affected by what level they coach at.

Sometimes being high-high vs low-high can make a huge difference though. You could potentially find a hidden gem if a guy has a low starting rating but is high-high. For example I have a guard who started out at 20 per. Hes now a RS soph and he just hit average potential at 68 per. That means he will max out at 87-88 for a whopping 68 points of improvement in just that one category.

I think all FD is saying though is that in many cases its not worth the extra $500 or more in many cases to find out via SV's.  If two players are close it might make up your mind, but if you already like the guy you probably don't care if he is hi-hi or lo-hi
