Season Draft League Team Rosters & Commentary Topic

I envision a scenario where a guy posts his salary, then doesn't account for all the $239k scrubs he'll need to fill out his roster when making his two 6th round picks. So if that happens, then Vance's thought comes into play.
No. If the rule is that after the 5th round, you must have $1.673 million left over. If you have less than that, then you must draft a different player in the 5th round... If you allow owners to draft players, and then change their mind and drop the players they drafted for cheaper guys, then that can be used as a dubious draft strategy... I can draft a guy in the 5th round I know I am not going to use, just to block an owner behind me from drafting him. Then, once he isn't eligible to be drafted, I can just pick up anyone to replace him. And there will be plenty of good players left over in this format...  If you draft too much salary, you can trade or suck up your mistake and roll with too few minutes... But a rule that states every owner must have $1.673 million left after the 5th will ensure that everyone has enough loot to fill the 12 man roster... If they don't have enough minutes, then that's on them..

miles/scud et al -- i hear ya, except for the following:

1. It wouldn't seem such a wise strategy to waste your 5th starter to "block" another team. Your 5th pick would then end up being the Last/168th pick overall so odds are your team will be weakened.

2. In the other draft leagues - DH52/ODL - owners know they have some flexibility during the draft to adjust which season they use.  In this league, its much more rigid by definition. So...the idea of allowing the 5th round to be flexed down at the end of the draft would just provide the tiny extra salary for those who don't like their bench.

I certainly do not need for this flex rule to happen but did want to at least explain its merits, and why using it in this league is more valid than in a non-season specifc draft league where you don't need mulligans built in to the system at all.

hmmm... that gives special treatment for those who do not plan well... takes the punch out of the meaning of "specific" and places unearned credit on "flex" (whatever that means). but it's all good. interesting draft so far. having fun.

Right. I'm not arguing with that, but what are the rules? What happens if an owner in front of me drafts the player I was praying for in the 5th round, and then drops him bc it didn't work out with his roster? Does he have to notify the league via forum/sitemail, and is that player now eligible for those who drafted after him?  Or is it just a dead player that no one can have?

Let's say the player in question is a guy who has multiple usable seasons from 300K-3Mill & could be a popular 8-12 guy, and his only season drafted was in the 5th, then dropped...  That would kind of be unfair to other owners bc all of the players seasons would be dead for no real reason.

Again, I'm just pointing out possible conflicts that could occur, not trying to dispute the rules, just need some clarification.

It's an easy solution. We can monitor each team after its 3rd pick and post "scud's 4th and 5th picks will need to total no more than $X or his team will be invalid" and the same with the 5th pick (the next pick will need to be $x or less or his team will be invalid).

I agree 100%

have some faith in your fellow owner guys....i highly doubt anyone is gonna have a problem with the cap....most of us are building our teams in a "new theme league" set at 50m(then switch leagues when jkaye gives out the league#)...its pretty easy to tell if youre not going to have enough money

id say the best we can do is what uptown was just talking about...that way if someone does mess up, another owner should be able to point it out right away...then we suspend the draft and make that person pick over - or just skip them and make that player available to the next person....but i really doubt this will happen anyway

Seems like some of y'all are starting to stack a lot of usage for a $50 mil cap.

I'm surprised there was a LeBron there for me at 24.

I was happy to get 93 Shaq on team Rodman. Gilmore seems like a good fit as Lebrons number 2 as well, haven't used him yet though.

Gilmore this late seems as good as some of the early Wilt reaches

yea i wonder if i could have waited and gotten 65-66 wilt in the 2nd...seems unlikely, but there is the salary cap to worry about so it may have been possible

65-66 is a pretty underrated wilt...wedged between his ball hogging early seasons and his low usg support seasons...48 min of 14/28 reb% with 85 d and only 2.2 fp48...and his 26.5 usg with 54%fg(77% pnt) makes him a nice 2nd(or even 3rd) scoring option on this team...with 92-93 rodman at sf i can literally put any pf i want next to wilt...tons of options

well vance...gonna be interesting to see how our mj/dwight teams do....probably the most similar pair after rnd 1...i had a very tough time deciding between 09-10 and 08-09 dwight

Dight Howard 09-10 was a dirtier player than what I wanted but that 61% EFG and over 40 CREB% with 90 defense was too much to turn down. MJ will be the top dog on the team and DH will be second. The 24% usage was just about perfect for my team too. I agree that out teams are so similar. We tend to think alike so the remaining rounds will be very interesting. I'm just glad that I am picking ahead of you in round 3. I'm thinking of doing something crazy at that spot though.
