I have been a many, many leagues.  I have played on this site since 1999 or 2000.  I have been involved in more drafts than I could reasonably count.

That said giving NC two replacements is something that never happens in other leagues.  NC had been playing this game long enough to know that once you pick a player that player is picked.  If he was in a position of saying I want both or neither player then he should have indicated that.  

Since he didn't he should keep Barry and have a replacement player to select with him.

AS FOR ROADIE...

He didn't screw anything up.  He made a simple error that many of us have made.  He is a more than solid owner here.  I will say that the main draft board on page one has been updated sporadically and sometimes things get missed.  Roadie tried to honor the request of a fellow owner and several people vilified him...shame.

Oh and for those who look at my record and say I am a virtual rookie...remember I just started this alias.

yeah, roadhouse didn't do anything. when you get a proxy, you post it as is. you don't interpret. or, you post something like, "hey, one of nc's proxy picks has already been taken. what do I do?" but what else can he do but post the proxy? nothing, really. I don't know what he was supposed to do, but I think he did the obvious thing. nobody should be getting on him for that.

I don't think this scenario has come up in other leagues (this type of proxy interpretation misunderstanding or ambiguoty). its not as simple as posted players being locked as draft picks. I relied on the vote, 6-5, in favor of NC. Plan to add a rule addressing this for next time to ensure we have an agreed upon procedure going forward.

tough situation to deal with....but i think in the end, jkaye got it right

nc's dorrell wright pick should have counted...he didnt indicate in his proxy sitemail to cancel the entire proxy if one of the players was picked..thats on him

however, he got skipped several times when the draft should have been put on hold until he made his replacement pick...if nc complained, we could have had to make all those picks over again...instead, he just ends up getting to replace wright...i think thats a fair compromise

Draft should have stopped the instant the replica player was recognized in his proxy and stayed that way till the situation is rectified or his time slot is over.  If he doesn't respond immediately, sorry, that's what we have time slots for.  Also, It's a holiday, so give people a break.  Proxies are used out of consideration for the other owners in most cases.  Had you guys not done the right thing, he would have been ****** for being considerate.  This is one reason why I've never been pushy about people using proxies.  You lose some strategic elements by using them.  MInd you, I did use them out of consideration & respect to other owners, but I would sometimes only send one guy with the disclaimer of: "If this guy is picked, I'll make my own selection by my slotted time."  If that's a problem for the other 23 owners, well, deal with it.  It keeps things like this from happening, messing up a draft and getting feathers needlessly ruffled.

I've never seen a situation like this.  Personally, had I been the one receiving & posting the proxy AND I noticed that one of the players was already picked, I would have posted, "One of <insert owner here> proxies has already been selected.  I've sitemailed him so he can re-pick" and would have posted neither proxy.  Double rounds are pretty important strategically and often those two picks only make sense together.  The person posting the proxy does have some responsibility here.  However, if they don't notice a proxy is drafted and it is an honest mistake (as is CLEARLY the case here!), well then, there should be no worries, as long as the draft stops immediately.

Like it should have ... at least until his time slot is over.  When in doubt, think about how you'd want to be treated in the situation.  It's Christmas for crying out loud.


(Before the obligatory "who asked you?" is asked: I was sitemailed by someone in the league who was interested in my opinion and wondered if I had ever seen anything like this, being a bit of a vet of draft leagues.  I told them basically what I said here.)
