He costs just so much for someone that can shoot you out of a game, and doesn't exactly dominate the 3PA game either.
I looked at him, just didn't think it was viable.

Is this the first time Kobe didn't get drafted?  Guy used to be a sure fire 2nd and even borderline 1st at times... and with everyone's fascination with 90 defenders, how did he not go?  He's not my favorite sim type, either, but people have always gobbled him up and those similar to him (tmac, harden)... I almost changed directions several times to draft him, but I just know better than to switch gears that late in a draft to pick up a falling star.

It has been the same thing with Vince Carter.  Not quite the same defense, but the usage, reb, and ast percentages are all similar.  I think we have all gone so hyper eFG (because the sim rewards it) that he isn't as sexy.  Three years ago the 14-15 Harden would have been an easy second round pick.  T-Mac used to go in the second or early third.  Dr. J used to be a first rounder and Russell would go in the top half of the draft.

I think with the seasons that have been put up by LBJ, Durant, Curry, DJordan, CP3, and many others we have been seeing huge shifts in who gets drafted where.  

A couple of seasons ago, tmac didn't get drafted. I think the new Harden and Klay seasons have bumped Kobe in the ODL. I was getting nervous he was going to end up on Mikee's team

Interesting.  Thanks for your responses.  I find it funny that Dr. J is still getting drafted in rounds 1 & 2, and most people use one of his 51% efg seasons.  Better boards than Kobe but way, way worse turnovers and virtually no threes at all.

But yea, if you're drafting Dr., I think you gotta use the 54% season

Yeah, and that season sucks on the defensive boards (hard to use at the 3) and gives no 3s (hard to use at the 2).  I've just never been a fan of the Doctor in this league.  How many times has he won a ring here, anyway?

edit: looks like one (on this engine, anyway).

I won my division and got to the conference finals with Kareem and Dr. J (55 efg season) a few seasons ago. Think I had Harper, D Green, and JR Smith as his back up to get enough 3s. As a SG you can make it work, he does have nice OReb numbers.

As far as Kobe, there's only a couple of first round picks that I would consider pairing with him.

key word there is Kareem.

so there's a way to make all those 2 pt shooters work, especially if you have Draymond for rebounds and J.R. for volume 3's, but most likely you need two guys over 54/70 D, and that basically doesn't happen......unless, of course, a noobie sap like me gets scared, thinks he has to have Moses, and trades Kareem to jt7king straight up.

To me Kobe/Shaq or Kobe/Kareem is a workable duo. The one great thing about Kobe as compared to MJ is that he has a couple seasons where he takes more than 25% of his shots from 3, and in all of them he gets to the line like crazy. With most other teams Kobe just dwarfs your other shooters.

(Kobe/Shaq in the sim. not in real life. well, unless you want to win 3 championships with two guys who can't stand each other, but other than that)
