I think the randomizer is a necessary evil for this first season. Thanks for getting this rolling, ash. EOL used to be one of my favorite leagues. And those of us at the bottom of the draft list shouldn't despair too much. I think it's possible to build a competitive team out of any franchise (especially with the way the combination franchises work), and I'm pretty sure I remember an owner drafting 24th winning a title one season.
yeah, I wasn't a fan of using the randomizer, but to be honest, I don't understand how leagues use the new york state lottery. I just trust that ncih/zizzo/tarheel/whoever won't screw me, as it's not in their best interest.
To those who are concerned, after this season, it's done in order of finish (champ gets first pick, after that lowest win total drafts first. No lottery.)
Also, I don't know about drafting 24th and winning, but I drafted 22nd and won this once, so I personally know it is very possible to build good teams from drafting far down. Not just good teams;
championship teams. I used one of the conglomerate teams. One of the things you'll see... those people who draft the big name franchises often end up using big names who aren't necessarily the best choice (for example, a Celtics frontcourt of Russell, McHale & Bird. Sounds incredible in your head, but there's not enough rebounds on that front line to be competitive. A front line of Dwight Howard, Ben Wallace & Shawn Marion sounds a lot worse (and would likely get demolished if this really happened IRL), yet is far superior in almost every facet in the sim. Backcourt options aren't exactly weak there, either.
I won with the combined team. Next season I drafted first, got LAL and went out in the 2nd round to a SA team (I still call shenanigans on that series, btw). Everybody's viable. And the $47M cap will help a lot, too.
