That's awesome, I drop for the 5th straight year in the lottery.

I think I've mentioned this before but can we discuss changing the lottery process? (And not just because it habitually rapes me). The lottery works somewhat IRL because we don't know how each player is going to turn out but here in WIS land, we do. We all know exactly what every year of every player looks like so getting a great player and building a team depends so much more on lucking out in the lottery. There are no surprises, good or bad.

My suggestion would be to group the twelve non-playoff teams in four groups of three (or vice-versa). Then do a random drawing within each group. This way teams 22-24 are guaranteed spots one through three, 19-21 get spots four through six, etc.

I dunno, the current system seems to lead to random dynasties being built though lucking out in the lottery much more than drafting pieces that fit together well, making good trades, etc.

Any thoughts?
I hate the draft lottery!  Even though I won Karl Malone despite being the 5th worse team a few years back, I totally agree with cdew on this.      Something different should be done.  I won 5-games one year and ended up with the 4th overall pick - Sleepy Floyd!   That was my reward for winning 5-games.  Sometimes teams are just really really bad.

But again (insert caveat here that I'm fine with trying cdew's suggestion) that's basically how the real NBA works.

Houston tanked horribly in 82-83 secure in the knowledge that having the worst record would net them Ralph Sampson.  There has to be some degree of uncertainty at the high end of the draft, or the league will become more predictable, less competitive, and - eventually - pretty boring.  I don't want to see too overt a race to the bottom for the likes of Shaq, Kidd, Duncan, Lebron, and whomever else.

Let's keep in mind one HUGE difference between this and the NBA - teams in the NBA are Drafting players with no knowledge of exactly how good those players are going to be, or how long they are going to play.  Here, it's all set in stone.

creigel and I try to monitor tanking, and readily accept heads-up from others in that regard.  We have never had an owner refuse to amend their underuse of a player when "called-out".

Like I said, this League belongs to 24 owners, and I'll help do whatever the majority of them want.

I don' t know, I think it's kind of wrong to switch the draft method after 20+ seasons.

This from someone who has never had any luck in the draft.   I don't think it would be wise to change anything.

TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Shanghai Shaolin trade Hakeem Olajuwon to Da Memphis Mafia for Vlade Divac and Memphis' first round pick in the upcoming draft.

cea to confirm.

Hakeem is thanked for his valiant service.  He brought the citizens of Shanghai six years of joy and pride with his artful footwork, catlike agility, breathtaking speed on the break, thunderous swats, fearsome turnaround jumper, and dainty mustache.  With the imminent, career-ruining injury to teammate and fellow star Fat Lever and the general pathetic deterioration of the rest of the roster, ownership has swallowed hard and granted Mr. Olajuwon's request to be moved to a franchise with opportunities to compete for the EBKL title (a goal that has sadly eluded him during his time in the People's Republic of China).

Regardless of how the 1989-90 season ends for the Shaolin, this strategic transaction marks the beginning of reconstruction and cultural revolution in Shanghai.  Season tickets can now be had for the price of a day-old eggroll.

trade confirmed, as Hakeem is happy to team with Mitch Richmond over the next 6 seasons or so.

Shanghai's keeper list is updated accordingly.

More roster moves may be coming.  Let me know if your team is on the rise and could use a backup big, wing or point.  I'm in the market for mid- and late-first round picks.
