Equal Opportunity League - Dead, again Topic

Right now you'd be hard pressed to build an old $42M team in a $47M format.  Several of my recent $42M champions are over $50M salary now.

even a crap bench is going to cost 5m+

Lets face it, I love you guys and this is no disrespect, but some of you Ash, Felonius, Uva, etc, have developed winning formulas based on numbers. That's great, kuodos to you for accomplishing that. Now you guys are upset because your "formulas" don't fit within the new salary structure. So by raising it you guys can just keep the same philosophy. You can still have a Cleveland team of Shaq, Lebron and Frazier at 47M, you just can't have their most expensive seasons. Shaq and Walt still have 7-8M seasons that fit well into a 47M cap. You might have to have a 5M Anthony Parker or Wes Person instead of an 8M Donyell Marshall and ya the benches will struggle a little until we figure out who the "new" 2M steals are, but isn't that half the fun?

You couldn't be more wrong.  This isn't about winning; this is about making an interesting team.  I have 11 teams sitting in my draft center from GC I've won... But I haven't joined a single league since the new roster came out.  And it ain't because the old formula doesn't work.  It's because I don't care about the teams I build.  Every team I build (for an open league as well as theme leagues) has at least one of my favorite players on it and usually has some theme to it.  That's flat out not possible to do atm.

hey ash, when do you expect the draft?

10/4/2010 7:25 PM

no... i haven't started to draft a team yet.  Although, I'm quite sure I can put together 240 minutes on 47 mil.  It just might not include Moses and Glen Rice anymore.  This is a bad thing?  Isn't that half the point of raising the salaries for the overused players -->  to see new players on the floor.  My favorite players aren't Lebron, Magic, Wilt, et al anyway.  They're guys like Darryl Armstrong, Bo Outlaw... heart and hustle guys who I would love to see in action.  And yes, these guys floated around the league so it still fits with the theme of using any player who played for that team.  You don't have any favorite players that don't come with a pricetag?  Every team in the league has fan favorite players who are not necessarily marquee players.  Nick Anderson for the Magic.  For me it would be better than watching Moses and Rice team up for the 1000th time.  Wouldn't that be a hoot.

yeah, no, I think we get that Mitch Richmond is the new Michael Jordan

try to put together 4000 bench minutes in 7 slots and then come back - I think you will be surprised/dismayed

when we're full.  Ill post the draft order when we get closer

ok..my quick draft experiment is over.  i took the top 400 salaried Lakers of all time (didn't try to twist them from any year, just took their Lakers years) and this is what I came up with...
70-71 Wilt
88-89 Magic
99-00 Kobe
72-73 Jerry West
09-10 Lamar Odom
97-98 Robert Horry
01-02 Derek Fisher
This leaves me with $1.6 million for 5 bench scrubs who would need to play 3-4 minutes per game.  Some superstars, some fan favorites in Horry and Fisher, and if you don't like Lamar Odom you could swap him out with 88-89 A.C. Green.

this seems to be dragging, are we getting any closer ?

10/6/2010 4:42 PM
Leave it at 47.

I agree with sawtech

I hate to wait this long and then end up with the Grizzlies anyway.

Thanks for the invite,  will see you around.
Good luck
