he's someone I almost don't consider using (or didn't in the previous salary format; haven't re-evaluated for each salary level yet, so these opinions are based on before):

It's a combination of these things that made me NOT a fan of the Dream in the sim.  Some seasons had one (or two) of these, but most seasons missed on most of them.

Doesn't get enough boards to warrant the high salary
Doesn't shoot a high enough fg% to warrant the high salary
Doesn't get to the line enough to warrant the high salary as a primary option (and has a pretty high usage on many of them, so it's hard to use him as a second option)
Fouls a ton.  When you're spending that much on a guy, you need him to be on the floor.
Blk% & defensive rating inflate his price.  If they did anything in the sim, then that'd be okay.  Their impact in a game is so minimal.
He isn't a great paint option.  With the inside-outside nature of the sim, there are 7 or 8 other guys who are much better as your high usage paint scorer.

***Now, it's a new environment with offense & rebounding increasing price.  You'll notice that most of Hakeem's seasons didn't really change THAT much.  That's because they increased the cost of what was dominant, so in a metagame way, Hakeem got better.  Also, in uncapped leagues, most of those don't apply.  He's a fine rebounder for any progressive league (shouldn't be your dominant board lord, but he's a great 2nd option), and his defense actually will help in a league where Wilt, Shaq, Kareem & the Admiral are going to be dominating early.  The FTA/usage complaint is still valid, as is his fg% and the fouls.  But all-in-all, I think he's 1st round worthy in this league.  He's just behind about 8 or 9 other guys in several different categories (things the sim eats up).  His longevity helps in this league, as well.

so ranking?  As a Center?  Outside top 10 (if my center isn't a dominant paint monster, he's going to be a board lord)
As a PF (he's 100% for all but 2 seasons)... Same.
But that's individual season rankings.  In a cumulative, career looking way, he's better.  Bottom line is that I wouldn't fault anyone for drafting Hakeem in the 1st.  He wasn't on my draft board in the first (before the lottery was posted).

Magic was a steal at 19, no doubt.  But if there's a way to screw up the rest of the team, I'll do it, don't worry.

I have all the confidence in the world... that you will indeed screw up the rest of your team!

There go the two point guards I hoped would fall. This is going to be harder than I could have imagined.

Magic and Oscar?  No way they were going to fall....although I did get a little excited for Magic

Stockton and Payton, actually.

Had Howard in UPL 2.0 but Lucas instead of McAdoo.

We will see where it goes from here.

Have Dr J and Mutumbo, feel pretty good about that..

I already feel like I'll be digging through scraps by my next pick. So far every player I had thought about for 2nd round has been taken.

Right there with ya empdenied...I was sure a couple of targeted guys would be there at 37 and I was dead wrong

I like Bellamy and Payton....gives me some short and long term options but I am now praying that two very specific players will be available later

I like that combo too.  Dr. J was my contingency plan, in case Magic didn't fall all the way to me.  Mutombo will be a nice complimentary player for him; he was in my top two or three for my 2nd rounder.

I had Lebron & Mutombo last time.  That was very nice.  Dr. J, sadly, is no where near as good as Lebron in this sim, but he's still a stud.  You've got a great foundation.

I've got Jordan and... it doesn't matter:  I've got Jordan.  Actually, I'd rather have Lebron than Jordan in the sim for the most part... but Jordan was the greatest, while Lebron is a whiny *****.

So far 4 of my round 2 hopefuls have gone (Howard, Kidd, Payton, Pierce).  I don't think the one I want the most (that is left) will make it back to me, but if he does... holla atcha boy!

i wounder should i draft front court befor back? since most of the good players are big men so mabey there will be good big men in the third round? if anyone thinks thats a good or bad idea could u say so
1/13/2011 8:30 PM
Not gonna tell you one way or the other what to do, but some people believe that it's easier to find adequate back court players in later rounds.  Others believe it's easier to find adequate front court players in later rounds.  I believe that both ways are the wrong way to look at it, yet both hit on key things.  It's not about who plays what position, it's what role they fill for your team, and is it possible for you to get that in abundance earlier or later
