Here's a quick batch...more later.
mikee1 - Lebron James, Reggie Miller, Dennis Rodman
I probably wouldn’t have picked either Miller or Rodman in the slots where they were selected, but they both fit reasonably well with Lebron. One of the last two starters needs to provide some assists since Reggie doesn’t do much besides score. I only use him next to a monster playmaker like Magic, but the team will be okay in that regard if mikee’s able to draft some assists in one of the next couple rounds. The presence of Rodman and the fact that Lebron is manning the point (presumably) means that rebounds are on the way to being taken care of. I do think it was a slight misstep not to have taken Moses in order to have strong inside scoring that keeps defenses honest. Still, I think this is a decent start.
malone9975 - Magic Johnson, Raja Bell, Moses Malone
I love Magic in this sim, and he provides delicious flexibility but I’m particularly partial to the season where he gives you some 3s (which unfortunately is not one of his better rebounding years). Moses was a gimme. This trio gives you inside scoring, some treys, assists, and a good start on boards and FTAs. I never really notice Raja Bell. I think there tons of better players to opt for in that spot, many of whom are still on the board. malone either has a plan for where the rest of his quality production will come from and so deliberately trimmed costs in round 2, or he knows something about Bell I don’t, or his childhood pet was named Raja. Time will tell.
dh555 - Dwyane Wade, Maurice Cheeks, Ben Wallace
Hard to argue with Wade, as long as you’ve got additional passing and some outside shooting. Cheeks, whose real-life game I loved, only fills one of those two needs. He’s priced a bit high for what he gives you in this sim. Big Ben is obviously a nice (and pretty reasonably-priced) start on boards. I think there were much better players available in both the second and third round, but I notice that dh is wisely accommodating Wade’s 36 usg%. I’m really not in love with this team, but it could come together nicely in the next couple rounds.
empdenied - Jason Kidd, Glen Rice, Charles Barkley
emp gets a strong start with 3 very sim-friendly players that I think will have very nice synergy. Kidd and Barkley together more than make up for the assists you won’t see from Rice, and the efficiency of Rice and Sir Charles offsets the bowling balls Kidd will heave up. Nice offensive balance as well. Some more rebounds and this squad should be well on the way to the playoffs.
robocoach - Fat Lever, Brent Barry, Shawn Marion
robo is clearly a man with a plan and is well on the way to controlling the possession game. The steal-to-turnover ratio with this first three is awesome. Marion’s biggest appeal in this game is his ability to play SF so robo is either planning on getting his PF in round 5 or counting on Lever to help even up the board numbers. The makings of a playoff team so far, but in order to solidify that position these three need some teammates who can draw some fouls and occasionally take over a game offensively. On a related note, Barry is not one of the sim’s better deals. I love his stats, but what you’re paying for is shooting efficiency that won’t lead to many blockbuster nights on account of his low usage. High efficiency, low usage guys are not great buys when the money is tight. Still, robo deserves the benefit of the doubt for now.
