ODL League Commentary Topic

This is one reason I didn't do the 52 league.  These drafts are ridiculous and unfortunately that includes the Master Draft.

First
, we need to start the clock within 24 hours of the draft order being set.  None of this wait 3-4 days stuff.  The first 10 picks are the easiest anyhow.

Second, it would make sense to start the draft at 8am every day regardless of how far "ahead" we are.  If 18 picks are made in one day, that should not mean we only have to make 6 the next.  We need to pick at least 12 every day.

Aside from that, unfortunately it does take time to research a team especially in lower cap leagues.  The ODL could easily be bumped to 48 or 50 now that we see the new salaries.  Lower cap leagues are more realistic, but not as feasible in a draft setting.

Just my thoughts of course.

Another problem is the exodus of HOF owners who draft fast.  Often UVA would field 2 teams, plus you'd have Ash in here, etc.  Newer owners tend to take a little more time.

the only problem with #2 is that it makes it nearly impossible for people to predict their draft slot from day to day...some people can't be around the site all day and need to pick at certain times, and pick their slots accordingly.

but #1 should be easy - took us too long to get on the clock. that's an easy fix for next year.

bottom line there's no way to run a draft league that finishes the entire draft in a week anymore. just a fact of life

we dont "ditch" people for their lateness, just you.... 4 times you can't proxy. 4 times you held up the draft, vancem gets invited 3 times, and three times you come back... the fourth lateness (another 6 hour hold-up) was the kicker. you have more important things to do, coley, and i understand that. in the future, i will stay out of the odl and 52 mil league.

"and yeah, we don't understand how the slotting works... it's rocket scientry" and tar's response, "I see nothing complicated about seeding slot selections in inverse order of the previous year's finish"... lol. u really are a dolt. never said it was complicated. just don't agree with it. next time i'll try and use slow down for you and avoid the sarcasm.

cheers
I was just saying maybe we should do the same (dump people if they delay often, regardless of reason.  Essentially deny them what they entered into).  I do not hold up the draft but for an hour when on the clock.  No one has to wait and the only my team suffers.  And the longer I take, the better options the next owner (or owners as it be) has.  You probably felt bad asking vance three times and backing out.  I can see not wanting that egg on your face again.  But a note to me after the second one with an ultimatum would have sufficed.   You sent me a personal invite and I accepted despite what I have on the table.  Then you do not mbother with responding to my message???  I always ask people to take the personal side of things to sitemail.  But without a response its not possible.  Anyways,, Last time I do a favor like that.

As for here... no one is asking you not to play.  Just like any league... if you don't like how its run, thats fine.  I think it is odd that after so many seasons slot selection and delays are an issue.  this is not uncommon.  But the main reason for the slot selection process is that I try and be as fair as possible.  If the worst team in the league the previous season wants the 24th slot since they feel its best... who am I to say he is wrong?  The absolute worse thing that can happen to someone who disagrees with it= is they en up with thee exact slot they would have had in reverse order.  We deal with seasons gone by here... not with potential.  We know what we will have at which point in the draft.  The slot selection process is by far the most fair draft order we can have.  Sorry you do not like it, but it has never caused anyone to lose what their "earned" slot should be.  If an uva or Q move up a couple slots because someone else wanted the back end- so what?  No one hear thinks uva or Q would be that much worse off drafting a couple spots back anyways.

If you do decide to leave the door is always open.  Personal issues aside you are always a welcomed owner in my leagues.  Even if you miss a pick 4 times.  I assure you I will go to bat for you regardless.

And for everyone------

Obviously this season had a sketchy start.  It is being done under the bowcommish account so ncih can get it going while I tend to things.  There were many "lets get going messages" and I was not able to do it.  So it was thrown together rather quickly to appease as many as possible.  This is certainly not the norm for us.  If you disagree with that just message me.  I would be more than happy to work it all out.

Thanks.

have you ever even advanced a reason why you don't agree with the draft slotting process? i would love to hear it, especially from someone who has created a draft league that manages to ensure that the desirability of draft slots is wildly unbalanced.

WOULD YOU PEOPLE STOP YOUR SQUABBLING AND GET TO TALKING ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL MY TEAM IS DAMMIT!

I would love to but the Brand pick isn;t working for me (not that I know what works).  If you got your first choice then I would probably be more favorable.  I think I will like your 2 gaurd if he's there... but not your point if you move kidd over.  So surprise me with that PF pick instead!

i'm too nervous to talk about anyone's team until i get to make my next pick. pretty sure the guy i want is going to get snatched.

yeah, that's about what I thought your reason was...you didn't understand it and now you're trying to cover your ***. good one

yeah, that must be the reason... mama, you're like a dog and her bone.

"coley, it's quite simple actually... new owners are plugged in last. how difficult is that? then there are no penalties like eleibowitz and i endure because we come back and want to pick at the end of the order, but get plugged in at the middle"

someone want to explain to grandpa that the way he "wants" it to work is already the way it works? LOL

absolute crazy talking gibberish

look at the top two salary seasons for Brand as an SF

also the rest of what you said makes no sense either
5/6/2011 10:40 PM
It was not intended to make sense.

I suppose in the new era of sim Brand is worth having...

I have an idea who you might take for the 2-  if he is gone I would not be surprised if you took another PG.  (i.e., I have no idea / with you, I (we) never know what you will do).  And because I assume a guard... you will show me by picking a low post player.

In the end... the gibberish equals my ability to assess teams.  It was more a reflection of me than anything else.

No scud... they do not. They get stuck with those slots because as a whole, and over time it has been proven that the least desired slots are 15-18.

Now if you show me a time where a new owner got 15 instead of you, or a slot you wanted but lost to a new owner please show me.  It simply is not possible..... with one exception:  You do not take the slot that the new owner did.  Any penalty, make believe or real is at the hands of the returning owner.

Unless of course you are mislead to think that you have to declare before the slot selection process starts.... you do not have to select closer to 1, closer to 24, or whatever.... you can wait and decide (but this will not bode well for you since there is a wait involved).  People can always selected a specific slot by message to me (i.e., my favorite number is 16.... I want the 16th slot if available.  if not I will take closest to 16.  Or closet to 5.  Or I will post later when I get back) OR they can wait til their slot time is up and post an exact number.  Its always been that way... the "Closer to X" people simply do so because they do not care one way or another.  So I cater to those that do not care, those that want a turn slot or time slot for their needs, those who it makes a difference to, and just about everyone except for the 24th owner to select.  I simply can't help them.

So feel free to show me where the process screwed you or liebs. Chances are I will say you are doing it to yourselves.  Feel free to wait your turn in the slot selection process to pick an exact number if you want.  Then if this is indeed the issue you will have fixed it all by yourself.

Hope that clears it up a bit.
