I know that past practice was to make picks for any "skipped" 1st round picks before the 2nd round begins, just in case those owners are leaving, as this makes the available team(s) much more attractive to new owner(s).  Hopefully it's a situation that doesn't arise (and hasn't for a lot of seasons), but just throwing it out there.  Applies to only 1st round picks.
