" how much will you have to sacrifice to get those two things moving forward?"

and what scarifices are you talking about? i don't get it.

I guess he's thinking you have to get board-light, no-defense, foul-prone machines to achieve the goal.  I don't think it's like that at all; it's just a guess.
9/2/2011 11:18 PM
usage and rebounding are not that hard to find...almost every draft league I am in has guys drafting big rebounding numbers in the 6th round even.  I am not at all worried

BTW...ash.  I am shocked.  SHOCKED.  That you drafted Boerwinkle.

haha I know, right?

what I mean is will you be able to get assists and efficient usage at the 1 and 2 without taking some combo of bad defense, turnovers, fouls with it

  17) 98average2 - Shaquille O'Neal, Elton Brand, Mookie Blaylock, Andrei Kirilenko,
this team is a beast. love the brand-shaq tandem for great in-close shots that will fall at a 55%+ rate and get other teams into foul trouble. when we pack it in defensively, mookie lights it up from the outside. perhaps mook's fg% is low, but so is billups and payton's and kidd's, but still, these low fg% guards light up the score board with their 3's and the sim's love affair with them. AK47 can play both sg and sf, as well as pf as a backup if needed. good balance, def, scoring and fear factor. Beastie Boys

  18) ashamael - Karl Malone, Chauncey Billups, Tom Boerwinkle, Charlie Edge,
as usual, ash finds a way to build solid teams from any draft position slot (even though he was griping earlier about the no. 18 slot). 1st round pick lands him the mailman, then he adds federal express to the mix with billups. these two alone do a little of everything, which the first two picks should do. 3's, some boards, some scoring, some def, some dimes. great start. i love the boerwinkle pick. more dimes, some scoring, boards and a little def. charlie edge was a bit of a puzzler for me, but like uva's teams where i would question his methodology, i no longer do this with ash's teams. i would say, there were better players available than edge, but alchemy is an art, and ash is a wizard. The Alchemist

  19) vancem - Artis Gilmore, Scottie Pippen, Tyson Chandler, Derek Harper,
this team is truly a picture puzzle, but not in the bad sense. A-train is the cornerstone of this puzzle, and pippen slipped in and locked perfectly into place, as did tyson chandler. nice duo working in the frontcourt there with good reb %'s, some scoring, def, blocks and efg%. harper lacks teeth, and doesn't seem to fit or compliment pippen too much, though he won't hinder him either. that's for sure. but there are two other pg's i can think of that would have been perfect fits with pippen, and thus, with the frontcourt. however, harper is better than average, and adds a certain amount of symmetry to this puzzle. so far, everybody scores, everybody plays def, everybody contributes equally. there's no weakness here. just need a little mustard from your next pick. Pretzle Logic

  20) empdenied - Kobe Bryant, Marcus Camby, Dave Cowens, Cedric Maxwell,
as crazy as this team looks, it does work, though i'm not a cowens fan because of his t.o.'s and fouls. well, i can't remember if he turns the ball over, but i know he fouls like a rabid mike tyson on tequila. but cedric, and camby and kobe are so nuts alchemy wise, this team will be great fun to manage and watch as they put teams away late. cowens will foul a lot, but that means guys like shaq, wilt, and other bricklayers at the stripe will be missing their shots. i think i might put the intentional foul setting at 3 mins if trailing by 8, and the ball back into kobe's hands. there are dimes, def, scoring, and 3's. cedric's high efg% will allow for kobe to take more shots. though this is a crazy team on paper, it's actually well balanced. nice job so far. Captain Nuts

  21) jayharvill - Tim Duncan, John Stockton, Emeka Okafor, Reggie Miller,
i really love the grace, efficiency, and strength in this squad so far. duncan is under rated in the sim. is an all-purpose center/pf that does many things very very well. stockton is my favorite pg in the sim because of his def, 3's, great ast% and ft%. maybe he doesn't board as well as other pg's, but he does all the other things better, including that 44% 3pt shooting. duncan and okafor will board enough to keep them close in games, but jay will need an sf that can contribute with boards to put this team over the top. the beauty of these guys will be how well they will play together. there are 2, tier-two guys and a tier 3 guy with emeka efficiently chipping in. jay must now find that scorer who fits in nicely usage wise. i like this team alot. Willpower and Grace

  22) tarheel - Ben Wallace, Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, Terry Porter,
i hate this team... hate it because it's gonna kick the crap out of many of us in this league. never like ben wallace as a number 1 draft pick, but i have come to learn how special big ben is. he is a poor man's rodman, and very easy to build around in a 52 m league. and then the lunatics in this league let marion slip to tarheel in the 2nd round. good god, man, and tar wastes no time scooping him up. but it gets worse, captainzen doesn't select amare (like he always does) and again, tar pounces on this golden opportunithy. good god man number 2! and then he steals my next pick, terry porter. like i said, i hate this team! another finals contender for tarheel. ceratinly no weaknesses. all strengths. efficiency, boards, blocks, dimes and 3's abound. his next pick will tie it all together. Sauron... and one ring to bind them.

  23) logain - Kevin Love, Jason Kidd, Grant Hill, Kris Humphries,
love the love pick! even in the first round of a 52 mil league. don't care what the others say about this pick, this was a good one. a tom boerwinkle who shoots 3's. that can't be bad. of course, kidd is a beast in any league, at any cap. first two picks were stellar. huh? grant hill? oh yeah, love shoots 3's. hmmm, there is a place then for grant hill, and watch what he will do for kidd. kidd's ppg will go up as will the other players. grant hill will not underperform if logain can make him the 3rd scoring option. his next pick will recitfy that i hope. kris humphries will have more fun on this team than he will with miss kim on his honeymoon (type of woman who will say, "careful, kris, don't mess up the hair!). good looking team with great %'s. Shampoo and Shooters

  24) jethroeg - Julius Erving, Oscar Robertson, Wes Unseld, Blake Griffin,
Unseld slipped by everyone. surprised jakotay didn't see that, but coley has wilt, so i can understand the slippage. but to pair this guy up with dr. j and oscar, where everyone dishes, and those 2 high-tier scorers are gonna light it up. everyone boards too. oh-oh, t.o.'s will be a problem, and great def teams are gonna hurt these ball handlers. press will be used, at least i will press this team to take the ball back. but if teams cannot get that done, this team will eat your lunch. don't lnow much about griffin, just know he's talented. but how does he play in the sim? i do not know this yet, so i cannot say anything about him at this stage. but jethroe is no slouch, so i trust him to know what he's doing. i like the feel of this team. With 2, you get Eggroll.

  12) scudmissle - David Robinson, Jerry Lucas, Larry Nance, Walt Frazier,
the admiral will be commanding a tight ship this time. team is strong in boards, is efficient, good def (2-100 defenders and a 90 guard) low t.o.'s and fouls with lots of blocks and steals. will use the 68-69 lucas season, so, adds more dimes than boerwinkle and unseld, with very high efficiency and a nice low usage (16.5%) while scoring 18 ppg. in need of some 3's now from either the point, or the 2. should be a couple of jewels left in the 5th round. there's 20% usage left, so, room to work with. if the right 5th player is drafted, perhaps they'll be a safe harbor to anchor in. Ship of Fools

  13) malone - Bill Russell, Deron Williams, Brent Barry, Jason Richardson,
absolutely love the richardson pick. this guy is a consistent 20 point scorer that shoots lights out 3's. and if he has an off night, BBarry and DW will take over. the perimeter game is strong, and russell is the safety net. a travesty that russell got a defensive haircut, but he's strong enough at 70 def and always a top 5 boardman. yeah, tarheel was perhaps right that DW went a bit early, but williams has a home here on this team and richardson will be a top 15 scorer in this league. nice pretzle-peanutbutter combo working here. mad-malone has plenty of usage left to get another tier 2 scorer that shoots from the paint. def is not great, but it is above average, nice inside out working for now. on the other hand, if richardson gets shut down from the likes of jordan, wade, lebron, ginobili, etc, there's not enough rain here to overcome the drought. gotta get that second scorer. Rainmaker

  14) dh555 - Dwayne Wade, Donyell Marshall, Shawn Kemp, Nate Thurmond,
nate the great has a home. i never like thurmond in a 52 mil league, not even in the 6th round, but dh makes it work, pairing nate with kemp. interesting combo, especially if dh uses nate's most expensive season. donyell used to never be a 2nd round pick in this league, but with the likes of barkley and others i cannot mention losing their slot 3 effectiveness, donyell's value goes way up, and he plays solid def. i've seen dh use wade well before, so i'm sure he's gonna be a pain in our collective arses in this season. no one likes kemp's fouls and t.o.'s, but he makes up for it with efficiency, scoring, boards and def. this team has explosiveness, but will occasionally implode too because of weak oreb%'s. there's good balance and sound def, however, dh has to get another dime man with mid-teen-low-20 usage that shoots some 3's. he'll have no problem finding such a player in round 5. still, that nagging oreb defficiency could be a problem. Repo Man

  15) katernberg  - Hakeem Olajuwon, Paul Pierce, Willis Reed, Josh Smith,
as good as hakeem and pierce are, reed and smith cannot support these guys well enough to make it work, and i'm not sure the 5th player, a dynamic point guard, can pull it all together. but what do i know. pierce is a force in any league, and hakeem, though underperforms a bit in this sim, is a solid number two scorer. it's pierce's team, but reed and hakeem need room to operate, and though josh smith is relatively low in usage, i'm a little concerned with what point guard will fit nicely usage-wise, dime-wise, 3's-wise. but there's enough here to like, and dislike. wish kat the best with his point guard. Wiseguys

  16) captainzen - Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Bill Walton, Don Buse,
pretty on paper, but not sure about on the court. glaring oreb weakness here, but nice drebs. also, there's a great big sweet spot happening with dimes and shots from all over the floor. well-balanced. paint, mid-range and perimeter. the strength on this team of course comes from the wings, unfortunately, there's a glutton of great wingmen defenders in a league like this. but captain's team has its own share of great defenders, so, maybe that's a wash. on the upside, there's buse, who does not turn the ball over, and steals alot. KG does not turn the ball over, and neither does walton nor allen. and nobody fouls very much either. terrific plusses! this squad has a nice feel to it. but like the donald sutherland said in the Dirty Dozen when pretending to be a general inspecting the troops, "Pretty... very pretty, colonel, but can they FIGHT?" Pretty in Pink

   7) 98average - Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Gary Payton, Alonzo Mourning, Andrei Kirilenko,
all systems go! this is jabbar's team, but payton will get more game mvp honors. not sure why others haven't given the glove his due respect, but he's a true force at the no. 1. would rather have payton than kidd in a 52 mil league. Zo is a poor man's jabbar, and mirrors alot of what jabbar can do, except dish, but AK47 can, and he also shoots lots of free throws. these fab four guys all have high usage, so, not sure what shooting guard 98 will select in the 5th. this is gonna be a troublesome starting 4 for many of the defensively challenged squads. 98's team's greatest strength lies in its defense, but just as good as it is at stopping other teams, it also has a rebounding defficiency, especially in offensive boards. not sure if a shooting guard can pick up the slack. but 98 is a savvy owner and probably has a plan. this team is put together well and will vie for a playoff spot, but the jury's out on the oreb department. one option might be to put AK47 at the number 2 and find a sf who boards. Micheal Jackson aint got nuthin' on the Glove

   8) tricky24  - Chris Paul, Tracy McGrady, Buck Williams, Joel Przybilla,
tricky just built an almost perfect ODL team, but, well, um... will get eaten alive in a 52 mil venue. i could be wrong, but i don't see buck and przy competing against the likes of wilt, shaq, drob, howard, the mailman, etc. on the flip side, paul delivers the pizza almost every play, and t-mac brings the coca-cola. they'll be doing some of their own eating of other's lunches, especially if tricky can secure a dynamic wingman. but how many of those guys are left? well, there is a special sf that will fit very well on this squad, and he's waiting to be invited to the dinner table. just doubt he will last another 50+ selections. the 4 million przy threw a monkey wrench into the mix, and instead of eating pizza, these guys will end up with a fish sandwich. Tuna Surprise

   9) bluenote - Larry Bird, Mel Daniels, Anfernee Hardaway, Maurice Cheeks,
tons of dimes, some 3's, some boards, and great efficiency! but, like i said, SOME boards, and ya gotta have boards in this league or you will perish. the good news is, the data base is full of boardlords, and bluenote will find some help in this area. mo cheeks was a curious choice for this group because they were already strong with dishes, but light in the pants with 3's. since nowitzki is gone, i dont see a big man available who shoots 3's and boards, even though there is one left, but he couldn't snag an offensive rebound if he was the only one on court. on the upside, bird and daniels and penny are all-stars in a 52 mil league, and will have their say a lot of the time. but there's just too much mid-range power and not enough of the other ranges to give this team great balance. but i like the def here, the efficiency, and the playmaking ability. this is a competitive team. Bottle Rockets O' Love

 10) xxevilivexx  - Charles Barkley, Kevin McHale, Horace Grant, Anthony Mason,
whew! barkely at the number 3! this team is full of long arms, long legs, broad shoulders and dead-aim shooters. love the mojo happening here. anthony mason was a great 4th round selection to add with mchale, sir charles and grant. is there a better efficient bunch in this league? no. however, why was mason added here in the 4th when guards were needed desperately? there are no threes to be seen on the radar, and no dimes either, even if sir charles can dish a bit. and barkley will play limited minutes, perhaps 30 a game. when he comes out, the chemistry changes drastically. yeah, there are the 5th and 6th rounds to add the guards, but well, these picks will not happen for another 15 slots, so, will they become diluted picks? not sure what evil plan evil has in mind, but i'm sure there is a plan, and he does have some usage to work with here. still, i love the front court very much! a work of art. horace grant's value jumps since his def rating was pushed to a 78 from a 68. Right Guard

 11) mikee1 - Magic Johnson, Carlos Boozer, Marques Johnson, Sam Dalembert,
i love this team, mikee. i almost went with boozer instead of lucas, but boozer will thrive in this system. it is his team, and he and magic will will unload their talents with both barrels upon us. marques is a superb no. 3 man in all leagues (if you have 3's already), but mikee has a start on 3's with magic's 103 of them, so, this is not a problem. this starting trio is soooo good, and dalembert fits perfectly, usage-wise, and i like damlembert because the man can hit his free throws too, which boozer has a bit of trouble with. this team is gonna surprise many of us in this league and will sneak up on us like a virus on a hot summer night. a very talented bunch with no weaknesses so far. great reb%'s, dishes, efficiency, and free throws. defense is acceptable, but not intimidating. if mikee finds a few more 3's, then i dont wanna see this team in my division. Booze and Bar-Be-Que

love the Frazier pick scud. I was considering him myself. Just going by Frazier's advanced stats I would say we as a group way underrate him, seems like with his combo of defense, efficient scoring, rebounds, assists he should be a 2nd round pick. But on the flip side I feel like I never see him on a successful team...maybe he just keeps getting drafted in the wrong places. Your team looks like the RIGHT place for him, to me, so we'll see how it works.
9/3/2011 9:58 AM
defense: 1x100 - 2x90 - 1x88    all for at least two positions------lets hope defense matters
9/3/2011 10:32 AM
Okay scud is Frazier the guy that I should have picked to go with Pippen instead of Harper? Frazier worked well with Stockton last season. But I've never used him. Had my eye on another uvasooner favorite but chose to stick more defense this time around. We'll see how that works out won't we!

And also I'm a bit scared that there won't much mustard left for me in round 5. Am I looking at the Walmart version of Grey Poupon or some other horrible condiment for my pretzel? There have been very few bad picks in this draft so far so trying to get a 5th round steal will be difficult. Thank god that I don't have the last two picks in round 6 again because that has to be the absolute worst part of having the overall # 1 pick in this draft.

9/3/2011 12:05 PM (edited)
frazier is not the guy i had in mind for pippen... he is still not drafted yet. but, frazier would have worked well i think. harper is a good choice, too, my friend,

I wanted Frazier, but once I heard Scud talking about a solid point guard with defense I knew he was taking Walt and cringed, I'd rather add a few pieces and I really like Anthony Mason's passing abilities and the solid 9 defensive boards a game
9/3/2011 2:53 PM
I LOVED Frazier on my team last year at the 2 with Stockton at the point
