My DePaul team in Yost just won their CC and finished number 3 - the highest ranking among undefeated teams. Florida finished #2 after losing their CC game 55 - 17. In contrast, I beat #6 Syracuse.

For those interested, I scheduled the following teams in nonconference:
#11 USC airraiddevil (Won their CC Game)
#7 Nebraska nelsonba25 (Won their CC Game)
#16 Oklahoma ebbets55 (Lost in their CC Game)

I really hope WIS looks at this and considers changing some weights. I missed #2 WIS by 2/100th's of a point. Post CC game rankings below.

I agree mackey, you got jobbed. imo you should be NC game bound.

For all of us that have kicked sand in your face over your coaching ability we need to tip our cap to you. Here's mine. I wonder how many of these chest thumpers on here will do the same?

DePaul is a tough road to hoe.

You weren't screwed.  Your regular season conference opponents were so-so at best.  Had you scheduled two more decent human-coached teams for your OOC games instead of two SIMs who were a combined 4 - 22, you would have easily made the NC game.

exactly.

The number of Sims in your conference schedule relative to Florida really hurt.  There is a total lack of transparency about what makes up the Coaches and Press poll votes, it's hard to imagine Florida maintaining 2nd in the coaches poll after a 55-17 loss in the Conference Championship.

+1
SOS hurt you.

what I don't get is how Syracuse is behind Ohio State.  Both finished 11-3.  Cuse lost a relatively close game in the CC while OSU got crushed.  Cuse's SOS was 2, OSU's SOS was 3.  Seems to me Cuse should have finished ahead of OSU.

I am suprised that the win vs #6 Syracuse and a bump for being undefeated wasn't enough to move you to the #2 spot.
Congrats on a great season ermackey.

Is there actually a bump for being undefeated?  Has anyone been told that by WIS, I hear that mentioned in the forums but have never seen any evidence to back it up.
8/20/2012 6:27 PM
There should be, I remember an undefeated BYU and PSU team back in the day that were considered inferior but still made some big bowl games. Today not so much with Boise and others getting left out because they are considered weak in scheduling but thats real life and those types of teams don't necessarily play that weak of a schedule here. With this in mind and the fact that DePaul et al have to deal with all the "-" of recruiting why isn't there a "+" in ranking if they schedule accordingly in OOC?  Lets face it playing in a lower conference isn't going to help SOS and there should be a bone for building a team in a weaker conference to go along with all of the negatives. I agree with jibe, great job ermackey.

FYI. From support:

The WIS rankings use the Coaches and Press rankings as a starting point and then modifies each team's ranking based upon home record, road record, neutral record, scoring margins, and strength of schedule.

With all of these factors considered, both Michigan and Florida edged you out. The biggest reasons for this are your SOS compared to the other two and the fact that Florida's loss was at a neutral site. Your scoring margin was better than Florida and helped you out but it was not enough.

Did you ask how the Coaches and Press ranking are determined?  Maybe customer service is delusional but there aren't any actual voters so there must be a formula for those as well.

Not yet. I want to ask one question at a time.

Looks like a 4 team playoff would have fit this season pretty well. Wonder if WIS is working on that?
8/20/2012 9:01 PM
I didn't know you were still around, ermackey. Congrats on the season, at least you still get a Level 5 bowl (quite an achievement with DePaul).

Although your SOS hurt you, I'd have to say you still deserve the NC. But go get em.
