5 open roster spots, roughly 10.5 million to fill them with. This could be fun.
You once filled 5 schollys in HD for less than $1000, if I recall.
Don't think that was me...

And I just found a guy in AAA who will fit one of the roles I was looking to sign nicely, so it's more like 4 for 10 now - and looking back at what I paid for the kind of guys I'm looking for last season, I'm not as concerned - I forget sometimes how some quickly some of these demands drop at the end.
Yep. it was you. I believe it was among your first forays in Shtickless, and urd, ace, and Nellie  may have helped you get some $120 guys, and a few others to fill out your roster.

VD was my recruiting mentor - he taught me his cheap, 2nd/3rd day recruiting methods, but they wouldn't have been conducive to getting 5 guys for under $1000.  Whatever, doesn't really matter.

I wish I knew how everything was going to shake down before free agency got started.  A number of awesome players went for undermarket value in the beginning and now people are getting deep dicked on how much they have to shell out.  I really hate overpaying and would rather just field a mediocre roster than drop 60 million of 30 million dollar players.
I'm like 50/50.  I made a couple of missteps, and agree that it would have helped to have some futurevision, but I think I'm going to end up relatively happy with my end result.  A lot still up in the air, though.
End result = being helpless to stop the return of the Dundies to the top of the division.

If it becomes a league-relevant rivalry again, that's a great step for me.

That 11 win dropoff last season was really disappointing and annoying.  Hopefully it was just a blip on the radar though.

I'm liking the odds of the return of the NL Beast this year, but we'll see.

Phillies balking at picking up Oswalt's 2012 option to get him to approve the trade - seems odd to me that that year would be the sticking point...

I'm looking forward to what VD and Moy do with their change.
I'll get my guy elcano in fa then need to fill 2 bench roles. I'm working on getting either payne or Thomas at 1b. If not I have a swap lined up for lee and a strong 1b candidate.

Yeah, there has to be something else to that.

I do wonder if that means the proposed deal has been worked out though.

I mean, seriously, who balks at locking in an ace caliber pitcher at a relative bargain for an extra year?  It's not like he's particularly old, has any history of serious injury, etc.

Regardless, it seems at least the Oswalt talk is more real than I allowed myself to believe.

I gotta assume that's just some kind of negotiating ploy, if true.

If they're really worried about it, that doesn't exactly bode well for the Phillies keeping the band together in the offseason. Have to think some major payroll pruning is coming in that case.

Seems unlikely urdanick deals Payne to moy given all the money he spent to compete this year.
