Fielding percentage, by itself, isn't a particularly good judge of defense, unless it's just terrible.

And all of this aside, fielding a crappy defensive team just because you aren't paying it any mind at all is moronic. Making intelligent trade-offs in favor of offense is a different matter.

Cheez, another good HBD league is Shoeless Joe.  It is not SHOFer heavy at all but a solid run league.  rootgargle is the commish and he keeps a good blog.  Plus, It yielded my only WS championship.

It is retarded for a number of reasons.  First off, FPCT is not a very good indicator of team defense.  Second, 6/7th place out of 16 teams in FPCT is more mediocre than one of the best.  Third, you are obviously far too lazy to do anything but spout off inaccurate **** but there have been a **** ton of teams in the bottom half of their league in FPCT to make the playoffs the last several seasons in HR.

I never thought of a formula, but I would think something like 2/3rds +/-, 1/6 FPCT and 1/6 CS%...  or something like that...  without looking too much into it.  There may be some additional data in the extended stats that would be a more effective in looking at it.  FPCT is not the answer though.

Moy has more posts than me.  I need to correct this.  I must have been busier than I had thought.

Defense is the hardest thing to quantify, and there's no one stat that does it. Fielding percentage breaks down because a guy with no range who can catch anything hit right at him will have a great fielding percentage, but isn't a good defender. - plays aren't errors.
