Leonard's attributes improved just by putting on a Slores uni. Makes me happy.
Yeah, cause that's how that works...
Well what else did he do to gain in attributes
He had spring training at bats
kinda. whenever there's an event it takes another snapshot of the ratings. It doesnt constantly update them. He got traded, so he got a new snapshot. If there were no trade he would have showed that improvement at the next development cycle. The improvement was always there, it just wasnt visible.

Three clicks of my mouse didnt really give them much time to play

My thumbstribution remains strictly merit-based.
Mr. Morals.
More like scruples.

Not really, more like I just like using it as a lolcounter, and occasionally a means of vigorous assent.

Just getting rid of Lee was a fuckup.
Then just getting Oswalt is good.
but not as good as getting rid of Lee was bad.
They gave up a year of Lee, unless you really think there was any realistic chance he was being re-signed.

They got 2 1/3 years of Oswalt, assuming they want the last year.

Lee's better, but not THAT much better.

I'm with Buster....

If Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro finishes the deal for Roy Oswalt today, one of the first questions he's going to be asked afterward is: "Why in the world would you trade Cliff Lee last December and then trade for a more expensive, less effective pitcher today -- four months into the season?"

And this is what Amaro should say:

"Look, we made the decision to trade Lee based on the information we had at our disposal last December, and it's safe to say that none of this played out the way we envisioned. That decision didn't work out the way we had hoped.

"But there's nothing we can do about that now; all we can do is to try to make the best decisions we can as of where we are today, and in Roy Oswalt, we are getting the best pitcher available. We're getting a serious competitor, someone who has had success in the postseason and in the regular season. And going into the final two months of the year, we really like how our rotation shapes up, with Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels and Oswalt. We feel like we can match up with any team, and we feel that this trade gives us a great chance to compete for the NL East, get back to the playoffs and maybe get back to the World Series for the third straight year."

I think trading Cliff Lee for Manny, Moe and jack was an epic failure on the part of Amaro.  EPIC.  I think getting Oswalt is a great move but it does not outweigh getting rid of Lee who was dominant in the pressure of the playoffs and the World Series.  These are two separate items.  I also have a bad taste in my mouth with all the nonsense of Oswalt hemming and hawing over the no trade clause.  If he would rather pitch in No Pressure Houston, what does that say about him?  Both Lee and Halladay were thrilled to come to Philly.

But I'll get over the last part if he acts like a man in Philly

Dubbs - try wearing a pronger jersey in Chicago. It's ******* hilarious. Chicagoans are *******. I was walking down the street in my jersey to watch the game at the bar and people literally crossed the street to walk by me on the other sidewalk like I was a rabid animal sent to brutalize them and eat their children. My wife was cracking up.

It's funny too how much hawks fans LOATHE pronger. They all hate him... all of them. How can I not love being a flyers fan in Chicago. It's totally my shtick.

Bear fans still complain about a shot Jim miller took in the playoffs. They call it cheap. I call it eagle football.

I don't know how much he really hemmed and hawed.  Maybe dress sluttier and stop taking the media so siriusly?
7/29/2010 5:21 PM
Also, I don't see how you can call a trade for prospects an epic failure after one year.  Like we said before, it sucked that he had to trade him, but it's pretty likely he would have loved to keep him were that an option.  And yeah, I don't think he got the value he should have, but that doesn't make the trade itself an epic fail.  Similarly, had we been ecstatic with the haul at the time, that would not have made it an epic success.  Now, if they had gotten Oswalt today for Baez and one of Sarge's hats, you could call that an epic success immediately, because even if Oswalt never threw a pitch in a Phillies uniform, we'd be rid of Baez and Sarge has lots of hats to spare.

Epic failure...write it down in the spot you write stuff down.
7/29/2010 5:28 PM
To really be an epic failure, the Phils have to miss the playoffs AND none of those 3 guys they got for Lee can ever contribute to the ML club in any meaningful way.  Might it go that way?  Sure, but I wouldn't bet on it.

You'll get over it after you watch him pitch his first game. He is one of the toughest, yet unassuming pitchers around. He battles when he doesn't have his stuff, and he never gives an excuse or blames someone else.
