I don't see how anchor babies are a problem under our laws.  The parents can still be deported giving them two
choices; take your child with you or hand them over to the state.

I had a feeling that ABC was lying about this.

...and I agree 100% with you, That should be the two choices for the parents.  Once the kid turns 18, they can come on back.
That being said, I don't believe in the "deport everyone" theory that many on the right are advocating.  Immigration reform is going to be a multi-step process that should provide a means for those that are currently in this country and working to obtain temporary work visas that they can use as a step to citizenship.
It would be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff, but I do not have a problem seeking a solution that includes this.

Arizona's problem is much worse than jobs.  It is the Mexican drug cartels kidnapping and murdering people there.

That Mexican drug cartel thing is total bullshit, raucous. In all of Sheriff Joe's immigration sweeps, he's rounded up exactly one person who even got charged with drug possession. One.

Still, citizenship and immigration should be in the hands of the federal government not states.

Well, sort of.  The average American isn't getting kidnapped and murdered.  Usually this comes down to infighting between rival gangs and cartels or a situation where someone owes money to one of these guys.  It's not the great threat to regular Americans that the right-wingers play it out to be.  Still, it's taxing on local and state authorities who have to handle these crimes.

I agree, but the problem with this is the complete underfunding and lack of ICE personnel.  I think they rely on local and state cops to ID potential illegals already.  And what are locals to do when they cannot or will not enforce the existing statutes?

I don't think that "many on the right" are advocating sending them all back.  Yes - the loudest on the TV and radio may be saying this (don't have time to watch or listen so I cannot refute or defend this).  But almost all of the regular people who tend to agree with me politically are common sense grounded enough (and fair minded enough) to realize that doing that is way overkill, and not necessary.

And I also agree with your suggestion about anchor babies - make your choice and be done.  But the parents and extended family gotta go through the legal process.

The underfunding goes back to the systematic gutting of all government departments over the last 40 years.  Hell, even the DOJ cannot get the proper funding.

- Allow more work visas or guest workers into this country.  Start with the ones that are already here.  Come up with a time frame for these visas/permits to be obtained.
- The number of permits allowed should correlate with the unemployment rate.  If the unemployment rate is going up, scale back on work visas/guest worker permits.  If the rate is down, issue more.
- After an allotted time period for the new guest worker program to take place, increase the penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants.  Prosecute it as a human trafficking crime with severe fines and jail time.
- Strengthen ties with Latin and South America.  Our focus should be in our own back yard first.  We've done some ****** things there and we need to work hard to get these countries back on our side.  China is already taking great steps to increase their influence in Latin and South America.  Open up relations with Cuba (a key to improving relations elsewhere).  Give Mexico any support they need in dealing with drug cartels.  If Columbia (with our help) can suppress the influence of these cartels, then certainly we can work with Mexico to do the same on our border and within our neighbor's country.  Invest in Mexico.  Help them raise their standard of living and reduce the incentive for their citizens to cross the border.

We can hire all the ICE personal we can and put as many troops on the border as we want.  None of that gets at the root of the problem.  It's time we shifted our attention and money away from the middle east and over to our neighbors to the south.

The problem is, politicians are now echoing those loud voices and trying to turn the yelling into actual policy. You've got Lindsay Graham trying to buy back his Tea Party street cred by talking about Mexican women 'dropping their litters' or whatever disgusting phrase he used to justify his support for repealing the 14th, and John Kyl trying to one-up McCain's own inflated rhetoric by claiming Phoenix to be the #2 city in the world in kidnappings (which is just a ludicrous assertion on its face) as a defense of the immigration law.

Yes.  Clearly biking is pushing us ever closer to the New World Order.  In fact, as an avid cyclist I have personally been asked to attend a meeting with the Rockefellers, the Rothschilds, the Elders of Zion, and the Illuminati in order to hash out our globalization agenda.

I'll let you know how it turns out...once I am your overlord

And this isnt all about sending them back. This is all about defending our borders against foreign nationals. Something the constitution supports.

We need national guard units defending the border. We can stop illegals if we want to. The fact is between lax Obama INS policies and liberal Sancutuary cities we have no control over our borders!

Swamp wants to take away my citizenship!
8/4/2010 6:03 PM
The Constitution does not recognize illegal immigrants as invading foreign nationals, which is what it does call for protection from.

And unless you've been watching FOX news your whole life, you would know that Obama has dedicated more resource to border enforcement than any other President has.

trying a rational response with swamp does not work. If he can not find a teabagger talking point to repeat he will just ignore you. I have decided making fun of him is as effective as arguing with him. Also, never speak directly to him.He likes to think that makes him credible. I find speaking over him or about him is much more effective.
