And Sharron Angle spoke at a John Birch Society-sponsored event in Utah over the weekend. The John Birch Society!

Things like this are the reason why the Tea Party has developed a reputation for being a group of cranks and crazies. Blaming the media for that reputation is just an act of denial.
Sharron Angle spoke at a Conservative event, that had 33 local sponsors.

One of the 33 local sponsors was the Utah John Birch society. There was a booth in the Event from the John Birch society.

If I can show you the American Communist party booth at a liberal event can we start calling Obama a Communist again?

Swamp, you always talk about the Constitution, judicial activism, the way the Founders intended it, etc...it was NEVER the founders intention to have money spent on campaigns deciding elections. Hell, they were against CAMPAIGNING because it was unpatriotic.  They would be horrified that money perverted one man/one vote.  To call campaign spending free speech is as much judicial activism as you've ever seen from liberal justices.
And yet, wasn't it the Founders who also felt that only white, educated male property owners could vote?

<<<They would be horrified that money perverted one man/one vote.>>>

And how has this happened? Does anyone get to vote twice? Does anyone get to vote for anyone else?

All money does is get your message out. And no one has any proof that spending $5 million to get your vote out works better than $4.5 million.

Could there be a point where no matter how much more you spend, it will not matter? Could soemone actually win just because they spent huge amounts of money, even if their views were not in line at all with the population in general?

Explain to me exactly how money has corrupted one man/one vote?

Interesting thought - that opening up the floodgates for corporate campaign spending, which might/will result in the public discourse being dominated by rich white men, is more in keeping with the original intentions of the Founding Fathers than the more egalitarian one person/one vote system that's developed over the years...

Is this an accurate assessment of the 2008 Election?

Obama certainly out-spent McCain.  And it probably did not matter who the Repubs (or the Dems) put up as individuals - the country was so opposed to anyone even loosely connected to the Bush Admin that they could not lose.

Did Obama win because he spent more, or have more because people were supporting him?

And if it didnt matter, then the money didnt matter.

Again does being able to say what you want 12 times instead of 9 actually make people vote for you?

The Tea Party supporters are helping new candidates beat the old guard Republicans. They are winning many races even though they have much less financial support. So there goes the "its all about the money" theory.

We need more bankrupt people like O'Donnell. The wealthy Ivy league grads have shown over and over that they are just in it for power and more corruption. Give me the bankrupt, the common, the people off the street any day. They are more like me. They are the new patriots that can save this country.

The media has been hitting the Tea Party with everything they got. People obviously dont take the media serious at all. Bout time.
O'Donnell is not common people, m-k. She's certainly not rank and file GOP, but her views are pretty far out there.
Idont know what you call "far out dere", but sounds better than "far back dere".

Your probably the alter ego of the Republicans that say Obama fooled the people. Now all these Republicans and Democrats are saying these new Republicans are fooling the people. Obama won because America wanted him, Obviiously many Americans have done their homework and want the O'Donnell's and the Paul's and we will see in November if most Americans want them. I know I do. I am tired of the elite Ivy league Republicans and Democrats and there "progressive" ideologies that smash hopes and dreams. The Republican Party is being hijacked and I think Americans are going to ask to hitch a ride.

Yeah, but you once called McCain's campaign manager a genius for the Palin selection...
9/20/2010 10:14 PM
Honestly RL. Would it ever be possible to ever know if the Palin selection was genious or idiotic? I have never in my life seen so much critique of a candidates, daughter, husband, and leisure activities. During the campaign I heard everyday people saying things like she killed her first husband, put billions of Alaskans money in her bank account, shot her son-in law, and on and on. They couldnt have gotten that off the news, but where do people get stuff like that?...Its so funny and sad at the same time.

I call an anti-masturbation, pro-ratting out Anne Frank to the Nazis mindset "far out there".
9/21/2010 2:38 AM
And how crazy is it.

1 She has never called for laws banning masturbation, she was talking about her views relating to her personal relationship with Christ. She was discussing her views on how to best live in a Christain way. I dont agree with her, but a case could be made that the bible frowns on masturbation.

2 She never said that she would not hide Anne Frank, she just said she would not lie. She would die for her beliefs. She believes that to lie is a sin. "You shall not bear false witness".

So what are we dealing with here. She is a good Christian.

If I were you I would ignore me too. It is easier to hide from me and just talk to other people who are like you than to actually discuss issues.

Cowards and losers!

Yeah...which is why I'm not a "constitutionalist"...at least not in the sense that people throw it around today.  I'm against the Citizens United decision because I think it's unwise and unconstitutional with even the loosest of standards...strict constitutionalists in the tea party should be horrified by the expansion of "free speech"...it's as dramatic as "due process" in the 14th or what's happened to the commerce clause.
